Victims of Tasawuff

Each day lot of people who go to different Murshids with good intentions are betrayed,spirtually,economically some even sexually.

There is this famous case of a person in Karachi,his name was Yousuf if i remember correctly,he had relations with many young girls,had thousands of followers,those who became 'comitted' were told that he is incarnation of Prophet saw(astaghfirullah).

Then there is another guy,Gohar Shahi,who has a website too,in which it is declared that Hajj and Omra are void,and no one should go to Makkah coz,the authorities have covered his picture on the Hajar Aswad with ink.He is also propagated to be 'Mahdi'.He too enjoyed large following.

Just a few days ago,a doctor,who is committed follower of a sheikh was telling my friend that his Sheikh is such a great personality that if he declares that he is a prophet,he will have no hesitation in beleiving in him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do my Brailvi Hanafi brothers say about this?

These people were not victims of Tasawuf, they were victims of fraudsters. You must realise that there are true Sufis and pseudo-Sufis. The examples you quoted are those of the pseudo kind and we don't even regard them as Sufis in the first place.

Second of all, people in general should learn a bit about Islam before accepting anyone as their Murshid. The tariq they might consider joining should be a genuine tariq with a good history and chain and link to genuine Awliya.

No true Sufi violates the laws of Shariah and people must be on the look out for those who try to damage a large section of Allah Ta'ala's Deen.

And lastly, it's not just the Ahnaf and Berelwis who follow Tasawuf, it's pretty most of Ahlul Sunnah Waj Jama'ah.

We could think of lots of anti-tasawwuf leaders too, who fooled people into believing nonsense. Case in point Juhayman al-`utaybi who held the Makki Haram hostage in 1979.

There are some inherent characteristics in Tasawuff that make people susceptible to such characters.

Like there are lot of stories among Tasawuff personalities that they did such and such things that are against Sharia but were "allowed" to them only.Like the story of Baba Bulley Shah spent sometime at dancers place and learned how to dance.

And then,the fact that Saalik or Mureed is not supposed to look at any action of Murshid as analysing it,so if a Mureed does notice something "ghair shar-ee" he is supposed to make a Tawil or keep quiet untill the significance of the action becomes clear to him.

And then there is this idea of Wahdatul Wujood that makes the Mureed think that somehow Murshid is in direct contact with Allah and even if he has done something different than what traditional Ulema have not done,then perhaps thats the right thing to do.

And how is one able to know if he is following the right person untill its too late.The ijazah's are not hanged on walls like the degrees of a doctor in his office?

Stories are stories unless offered with some credibility. Perhaps a sanad back to the Baba himself? Or is this based upon mere hearsay?

How many of the stories about Baba have been transmitted thru "Isnaad"


Perhaps because he is ma'zur at the time? When someone is ma'zur you ARE supposed to remain quiet.

What does that mean "being ma'zur"



Wahdat al wujood has nothing to do with "direct contact with Allah." "Direct contact with Allah" is kashf or ilham.

Ok Kashf or Ilham ,somehow these put lot of people in contact with Allah leaving the book of Allah and Ahadeeth as mere "theory"

doctor harold shipman u.k killed over 100 patients over years slowly,poisoning,od etc ,but people dont attack all doctors cos of him,theres good and bad everywhere :) unfortunately
