As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah...

Unfortuately there's nothing going on right now, other than the Rihla in New Mexico which starts July 24th... for info on that check out www.deen-intensive.org. Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar is in Chicago so if you go there you'll probably feel the barakah of his presence by just being there and benfit that way. He does all five salaahs at ICC. And there's Zaytuna in California where there's always some class or another going on Masha'Allah. I know that's probably not what you were looking for, but that's really all that's going on. Insha'Allah Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad will be in the US in December : ) For more info on go to www.tasawwuf.org.

Alhamdulillah we all really benfit from the company of our 'ulema and the awliyaa, and that's why we all run to these intensives and such. I know that when there's a long gap between one sitting with a shaykh and another we tend to fall into shaykh-sickness, where we really miss the shuykh and can slip back a little bit in our imaan and dedication to the deen. One thing I do to try to avoid this is keep in touch with a shaykh that I'm particularly fond of and e-mail/call him every few weeks, just to keep that avenue open and to remind him to keep me in his du'as. I highly recommend this, as there's great benefit in it. I suppose words like "bay'ah" won't get me in trouble in this forum....? Well, I also recommend this amal because of the immense barakah a person receives from it. Alhamdulillah, if you'd rather not that's totally fine too.

I'm sure we've all heard how important it is to sit in good company. There's one hadith the gist of which is that, to sit in good company is better that to be alone, and to be alone is better than to sit in bad company. Living in the middle of Westchester County in NY, there's very little beneficial company to bask in so what I do, and I recommend this also, is listen to as many talks of scholars that I admire that I can get my hands on. Alhamdulillah with internet this has become much easier. Listening to the talks of the 'ulema and awliyaa is of great benefit and the time you spend listening is as though you're sitting in their company. Granted you probably won't get AS much benefit as actually sitting in their company, but by the Will of Allah you'll still benefit tremendously.

A few things you could do:

-listen to Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar's talks on www.madrasaprogram.org... masha'Allah he has an AMAZING selection of talks to choose from. I'm currently listening to his commentary on the Shama'il of Imam Tirmidhi radiAllahu 'anh under the section "Hadith." Masha'Allah it's really, really beautiful.

-listen to Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad's talks on www.tasawwuf.org. Most of these are in Urdu, and if you understand it well you're set. Masha'Allah he has a series of talks on every disease of the heart (if I remember correctly....) There are also talks by his khulafa Shaykh Husain, Shaykh Kamaluddin Ahmed and Shaykh Hafiz Sohail Irfan. I personally highly recommend Shaykh Kamal's talks..

-purchase Shaykh Hamza Yusuf tapes/CDs from www.alhambraproductions.com. Some of his CD sets are amazing masha'Allah. One particular set I recommend is "The Poor Man's Book of Assistance." It's more general and pretty much anyone can benefit from it. It's his commentary on Sidi Ahmad Zarruq's (rahimahullah) book by the same title. Very beneficial, Masha'Allah.

-listen to Habib 'Ali Jifri's audios online. Someone posted a link for that in one of the other forums. I also recommend his videos. SubhaanAllah, his embodiment of sunnah will make a grown man weep and soften the hardest of hearts, by the Will of Allah...

The purpose of my saying all this was to make the following point: Be happy! : ) Even though there aren't any intensives going on, there's still a lot you can learn and benefit from online and elsewhere. If you're a student, there's still a while before classes start again, so make good use of this summer!

May Allah subhaanahu wa ta 'aala grant us all the tawfiq to send every moment of our time forward so that it will be waiting for us on the Day of Judgment to lighten our burden... I pray He fills your time with barakah and grants you the gift of sunnah, inwardly and outwardly.

Was-salaam ma'al ikraam,
Zareen
