I have a hardcopy of the book, and it seems to be a bit different. I don't know if the its the same translator, but it has some additional chapters, including the Sheikh Ilyas's (rah) discussion on "ilm and dhikr", his view on "various parties" etc.

You can read the two additional chapters from the temporary links below:

Common Method of Knowledge and Dhikr (http://evernote.com/pub/islamicbooks/islamicbooks/search.jsp?offset=0&max=32&search=common%20method)
Maulana Muhammad Ilyas's (rah) Attention Towards Various Muslim Parties (http://evernote.com/pub/islamicbooks/islamicbooks/search.jsp?offset=0&max=32&search=various parties)

In Pakistan I met Hafiz Safwon Sahab who translated Maulana Ilyas' Malfuzat compiled by Manzur Nu'mani and he even invited us at his home. He actually got his translation confirmed by Raiwind Markaz / Haji Abdul Wahab Sahab.

:jazak: for pointing that out and for the scans. I myself do not own the English copy of the Malfuzaat, I just saw the link. I do however have the same book in Urdu, as well as several others by Maulana Abul Hasan :rahim:, and others (all in Urdu). I haven't compared the Urdu one to this one.

Did Hafiz Safwon Sahab translate it into English?

I meant that whether they are in English or some other language.

But since the links have been to English translations, I can assume that it's English : )

Question:
How was it approved by Haji Sahib (DB) if it's in English? Or did some of the English speaking ppl in Raiwind assure him that the translation's good?

You have mentioned that you have the Urdu version of Malfuzat. I want to compare the following passage with the same part in Urdu book. This passage is mentioned in the chapter 3 , saying 24 , page 13 of the English book.

It is also obvious that the jamaats cannot do all the work. All that can
be done is that they reach all places and through their efforts awaken
the people and make the negligent aware so that they may benefit from
the learned people in their locality.

An effort should be made to connect the public with the ulama and pious so that they could be reformed. In every place only the local workers can fulfil this task. The public will benefit more and more from the learned people of their locality.

Particularly, I am interested to know the Urdu equivalent of the word "Pious " ?

ASA,

It seems to me that the word Sulaha has been derived from Sulook. So. the Sulaha refers to those pious people who have adopted Sulook to get Divine proximity ( Qurb-e-Alahi )".

Am I right ?

Assalaam'aaleykum Br. Seeker_ikb

Urdu word equivalent to the word pious is in fact 'Sulaha' and is actually derived from 'Salihiy'yat' which means piety, virtue, righteousness.

Whereas the word 'Sulook' (in general) means behavior, treatment, kindness etc.. And in the context of Tasawwuf it means mystic initiation. You can look for the detailed meaning of the word 'Sulook' in relation to Tasawwuf here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulook).

Thanks for the explanation. We can safely say that Sulaha can include various types of pious people including Sufi Shaykhs or Pirs. Is that right ?
