Insha'Allah my husband and I are planning to go on Hajj this year, insha'Allah!
I wanted to know if any of you have taken your children with you? My son will be a year and a half by that time and we wanted to take him, would this be wise? I was just kind of nervous due to the amount of people that would be there, in regards to him getting sick, plus the stampedes etc. We would be going for 10 days, possibly with my parents..

InshAllah will be not problem at all, as you are going as a family.
Stampeeds: Are now, alhumdulillah, a thing of the past. Jamaraat is 3 stories and this year was very very easy in rush time. Next year there will be 5 stories inshAllah and be even easier.
Sick: Cough and fever. Ask medical advice for amoxcillin (the main and prescribed antibiotic for pilgrims) for babies and baby cough syrup and keep on giving throughout the trip.

Wa'alaikum as-Salam warahmatullah
Alhamdulillah my hajj experience entails the view that the overall trip was very well organised and trouble free. Regarding children - from thousands of pilgrims, I only came to observe a single child (~1-2 years old) on his mothers back, druing tawaf. Although the stampedes has greatly reduced there however was a time during tawaf where the number of pilgrims increased dramatically and it became ever so humid - this occured only on the lower level and I would suggest if you do take your son then perform the tawaf on the upper level for a safer approach and to avoid any risk/hazard.
May Allah :taala: make it easy for you and your family and accept your hajj...Ameen.

Amina, take pedialyte with you in case he gets dehydrated. It is quite common, I ended up getting dehydrated and had to go to the hospital for an IV morning before leaving for Arafat!. :alhamd: though the whole hajj was an amazing experience even the getting sick part!
:alhamd: it is good you are starting to take a head start in preparing.

As-salamu 'alaikom~
I would just like to point out that cough and cold medications are not recommended for children of that age at all, and that antibiotics should be used judiciously.
I believe you would need to present certain vaccination records for your child, though.

I would not bring my 1.5 year old on hajj. Hajj is not a vacation. One will be in the hot desert sun, there are bustling crowds, parents will spend a great deal of time focussing on the child rather than ibaadah. Ibaadat during hajj is not like praying with a 1.5 year old. little babies climb on parents during prayer. But there is no room for that during tawaf.
Most importantly for children, there are foreign germs everywhere. It is almost certain that adults will contract respiratory viruses which will result in some infection. Some adult, myself included, performed tawaf on teh top circle on my first umrah and I had to return to my room with heatstroke after I completed it.
children will most likely contract viral infection which could be severe.
I highly doubt Saudi officials will grant a hajj visa to a 1.5 year old due to health risks.
Again, parents will be distracted by the baby, possibly loosing their hajj by becoming impatient. Its better to keep the baby at home with granny.
And Allah knows best.

not sure if this is an urban legend but i have heard it many times from numerous people.
children have been known to be kidnapped from umrah and hajj and forced into begging.
personally i wouldnt take a child that age with me. like the other bro said, its not a holiday.

I'm not sure if I'd take my child with me or not, but for my parents, they had no choice but to take their three sons of age 2, 4 and 5 as unfortunately the ones who were going to take care of my brothers backed out. :alhamd: My mother had family in Saudi so the two older children were left with them while my brother went and performed his first Hajj at age 2 : ) To top it off my mother was also pregnant 7 months. This is from 1985... I'm guessing the Hajj nowadays should not be as hard as back then.
:insh: I hope all goes well, sister Anima786!

It would not be wise to take a 1.5yr old toddler with you, for the reasons already mentioned. So, try your utmost best to leave your child behind and insha'Allah Allah will take care of him.
Hajj is no holiday - its very tough, so prepare yourselves both physically and spiritually.
You need to concentrate on your repentance and worhsip not to be diverted and spending a lot of time baby sitting - which would be inevitable...

Apparently the Arab states have banned children under 12 from going for Hajj this year.
