UK: Mawlid in Classical Islam (Bristol - Amal Press)
Should we celebrate the Prophet's birthday, or shouldn't we?
Is this in imitation of Christmas, or not?
Is there any basis in Islam for this event, or none?
Did anyone celebrate this historically, or was it invented by
subcontinent
"mawlvis?"
What did the early scholars say and write about this?
What purpose could this possibly serve?
Shaykh Gibril Fouad al-Haddad [Syria] (bio available from
<http://www.amalpress.com> www.amalpress.com) will be delivering a
lecture
entitled:
"The Mawlid: Its place in Islam's Classical
Tradition," and will be delivered on Saturday 23rd April at 2:15pm,
Bristol.
A prolific translator of classical Islamic work's, shaykh Gibril
will draw upon the legal deliberations of some of the foremost scholars
of the classical period and discuss the basis, development and
objections raised regarding the celebration of the Prophet's birthday
(Allah bless him and grant him peace). There will be time for a Q and A
session afterwards, Insha'Allah.
This event is FREE

In the UK we are blessed with a variety of events. In the past shaykh Hamza has been to the UK as has Shaykh Sayyid Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi on the occasion of Mawlid. I have heard there are plans for a Mawlid in Wembley at which Shaykh Habib Ali Al-Jifri will be attending. Shaykh Babikr Ahmed Babikr attends Mawlid events in Bradford on a regular basis.
Wasalaam
Awesome : D

All atttending scholars are confirmed (just confirmed that ;)).
Oh yeah, the difference between the 15 and 20 pound seats is a locational one - all people who buy a ticket will get lunch (not sure of the menu at the mo, should be nice).
