:salam:

I was listening to a talk by Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam .

His talk was about thinking good about others and giving the other person the benefit of the doubt and not to be judgmental of others.Stay away from assumptions and being suspicious of other Muslims.Do not spread rumors and always think positively.

So I thought it's a good idea to start this game here . Please don't twist this thread into a debate and useless discussions.

Remedy for such Ill thoughts which he mentioned are 1) as soon as a thought comes to mind seek Istigfaar( do the zikr of Allah) and 2) think about our own faults about how sinful we are.

They are over 100 good reasons we can think .

So within this thread u will be asked to provide 70 excuses for each scenario.

That doesn't mean each person has to come up with 70 but all up lets get up to 70 before we move onto the next scenario.

The scenarios will be things that could happen to any one of us at any given time and we should all hope that our fellow brothers and sisters would give us the benefit of the doubt and practice the 70 excuse train of thought.

To enhance creativity, to allow one to widen their imagination and to give brothers and sisters a chance to learn how people see things and think about things... these excuses may give our brothers n sisters another way of looking at things instead of always right to the negative.

Are u ready ?

Here's the first one.

You see a Muslim brother or sister sitting in a place where you know haram food is sold?

Well that's one reason I thought of this game so that it can help us to "think" positively. So please contribute InshaAllah.

I love this game!

OK, you didn't specify whether a shop or a restaurant, but anyway:

1 - The person had a dream about the shop/ restaurant owner and is there to tell them about the dream

2- The person has seen signs that the owner is searching for repentance, and is there to offer advice and guidance

3- The person can't find a particular (non-haram) item anywhere else in town

4 - The person was in a huge hurry and this was the closest place to grab a coffee or a loaf of bread (depending whether restaurant or shop)

5 - The daughter of the shop owner is a pious Muslim girl and the person wants to marry her/ wants their brother to marry her

6 - The person was being persecuted by people on the street, and ducked in here to hide for a while

7 - The person has low blood pressure and felt dizzy and needed to sit down

8 - The person is a revert with a non-Muslim family, who called up in tears and asked them to come to this place urgently to talk

9 - The person is an enterprising Muslim food and drink manufacturer, who has come to suggest halal alternatives to the shop stock or restaurant menu.

10 - The person is waiting for a bus.

11 - The person is charging their mobile phone behind the counter.

12 - The person couldn't find anywhere else to perform wudu (with separate bathrooms for brothers and sisters), and is now sitting there out of good manners.

13 - The person used to work there, converted to Islam the previous evening, and is now waiting for their boss so that they can resign from this place selling haram.

14 - The person once stole something from this place when they were a kid, and they're now here to confess, to ask for forgiveness, and to compensate for the theft.

15 - The owner of the shop/ restaurant helped a member of their family, and they are here to thank the owner.

16 - The person is severely dyslexic and can't read food labels, menus or signs.

17 - The person is waiting for a non-Muslim acquaintance they met on SF, to take them to the neighborhood mosque...

Sister Bint, we think in a very similar vein, it appears =)

Got some more:

56) His nafs used to love one of the harams, and he's at a specific stage of spiritual training whereby he is supposed to sit in the vicinity of his nafs's favorite things, yet remain without desire for them (it made kind of sense before I wrote it down!).

57) He has concussion :cheesygri

58) He's in the middle of some kind of kashf of vision or waking dream - he has no idea where he is and doesn't care =)

59) It DOESN'T sell haram at all! You THOUGHT it did, you were "sure" it did, but in fact the chalkboard menu doesn't say "we serve pork / alcohol", it says "we NEVER serve pork / alcohol", but the NEVER was written vertically for emphasis and your eye didn't register it!

63)He dropped his wallet once and this was a store he passed by at that time, so he went to ask if anybody had come to give a wallet, so the guy was checking in the back in the lost and found box, so this brother was waiting for him.
64) He needed to charge the battery of his cell for an emergency so was using one of the outlets in that restaurant, as there was no other option..(and if your wondering why he had his charger with him, I have no idea...maybe he used his cell a lot??)
65) He knew one of the workers there sold cellphones so he was there waiting for his break to start so that he can talk to him about buying it.
66) The Restaurant was having a muslims day, in which EVERYTHING would be halaal, and you didnt know about it.

Spouse A Calls you asking to speak to spouse B.

Tricky situtation to be in...

1) Maybe spouse B misheard that you were Ill and was on his way there.

2)Spouse B told spouse A that they were going to visit someone who happen to have the same name of you, spouse A forgot who that person was and assume it was you.

3)Spouse A did not look at the time when spouse B had called so he assumed it was 2 hrs ago.

4)Spouse B told spouse A that he would stop by your house whilst visiting an Ill friend on the same street.

5)Spouse A was asleep when spouse B rang so had no idea what He/she said.

6)Spouse B had already visited the intended sick person but was delayed in traffic.

7) Spouse B after leaving the office found out that the person was not sick, was stuck in traffic and had no signal on their cell phone to call home.

8)Spouse A was feeding her/his crying baby when spouse B called so heard wrong.

9)Spouse B was leaving the office and saw an accident on the street and decided to assist .

10)Spouse B was stuck in the lift of the office .

11)Spouse B was about to leave the office when the boss called for an emergency meeting and he had no time to call back home.

Well

The missing spouse heard that a brother/ sister was sick. However, the poor brother/sister who was sick was actually somebody else, of the same name, whom neither of you really know.

Anyway, the spouse innocently set out from the office to visit this sick person. On the way, he suddenly realised that the sun was about to set, and popped into the nearest mosque to pray Asr. The mosque was old, beautiful and cool, and he felt so relaxed after his prayer that he decided to re-charge his batteries before visiting the sick person... closed his eyes... and fell sound asleep! He hadn't slept at all the night before, because of his new baby, so he slept for quite a long time, oblivious to the madly vibrating mobile phone in his pocket (of course, he turned the sound off before praying).

***

The reason I mentioned this particular story was because even people who knew him well, and should have known that there was an innocent explanation, spent several hours speculating about his whereabouts, and assuming he had been lying to somebody.

Very close, sister!!

As for the benefits:

***

[Hujurat 49:12] O People who Believe! Avoid excessive assumptions; indeed assumption sometimes becomes a sin...

[Hujurat 49:6] O People who Believe! If any miscreant brings you some tidings, verify it, lest you unknowingly cause suffering to some people, and then remain repenting for what you did.

SubhanAllah, doesn't it awe you again and again how absolutely everything is covered in the holy Quran?!

A nice story related to this subject:

Tawaadhu’ (humility) was an outstanding attribute of Hadhrat Hasan. He considered himself inferior to everyone else. One day while walking along the bank of the river Dajlah he saw a Habshi (Abyssinian) with a woman and a wine-bottle. A thought crossed his mind:

‘This man cannot be better than me because he is with a woman and consuming wine.’

As the thought crossed his mind a boat with seven occupants appeared on the river. Suddenly the boat began sinking. Seeing the plight of the boat-people the Habshi dived into the water and safely brought out one person. He returned and brought out a second man. He continued his rescue until he had saved six people. Turning to Hadhrat Hasan, the Habshi said:

“If you are better than me, then save the seventh one. O Imaam (leader) of the Muslims! This woman is my mother. The bottle contains water. I am here to test you. I have seen that you have failed the test.”
Hadhrat Hasan now realised that the Habshi was a close servant of Allah appointed to test him (Hasan). He fell at the Habshi’s feet imploring:

“Just as you have saved the six persons from drowning in the sea, save me from the sea of egotism and deception.”

The Habshi: “May Allah brighten your eyes (i.e. spiritual eyes).”

Never again did Hadhrat Hasan regard himself better than any person. His state of humility reached such a pinnacle that once seeing a dog he supplicated:

“O Allah! Accept me by virtue of this dog.”

There is a weekly ghast going on. We have went to one house for meeting one man(who ispoor/medium/rich).He is the only male in his house. Usually all knows he will return from his job at that time. His vehicle also parking right in front of his house. We can also see his sleepers. We cried "we are from masjid, can we meet Abdullah" No answer!

:ws:

Maybe he is having trouble with some particular person, he must have thought the group of people had come to hit him or something. So he must have thought you were lying.

I wrote "we are from masjid" so why he will think that? Horror reply brother. May allah(s.w.t) never ever give such excuse who have danger for his life/wealth/family.
Aameen.

lol this is a " usual " scenario when ghust comes knocking so I've heard.

1) Maybe he's fast asleep and no one else is at home.
2) He's in the bathroom .
3) On the phone and doesn't hear you all knocking.
4) His van is there but he's gone out with someone else and wearing shoes not slippers.
5) He's gone for a walk down the street to get some groceries, or tend to a neighbors needs or something.
6) His wife/child is sick and he's busy tending to them.

He could have simply had other needs to attend to and didn't bother going to the door. Plenty of people come to my door and if i don't know them i don't answer. Especially, if the person at the door is saying something...As for him hearing you say were from the Masjid...I doubt that was perfectly clear if heard inside the house...In all honestly, if he was far enough he could have just heard loud voices which could have scared him...or led him to believe you were there to sell him something.

61. He is a brailvi and has been told that the tablighis are no good, therefore according to his beliefs he is trying to stay away from them

62. He heard the doorbell ring, peeped through the curtains, saw the tablighis, got so happy that he had a heart attack and is now lying on the floor in pain

63. He's deaf and no one else is at home to hear the doorbell, he is fixing his hearing-aid and has thus taken it off.

I walked to my room with an ink bottle in my hand wrapped up in newspaper. It was local ink filled in re-used Rooh Afza bottle (750ml). Many people eyed me on the way with curiosity. It took me a second each to register their reaction and years to figure out the emotional and intellectual process behind those reactions.
