ASW All,

Regarding Hajj, the first ayat was revealed at Al-Madinah (when there were around 300 idols in the kaaba), which is mentioned in Surah AAL-E-IMRAN V 96

"The First House of Worship built for mankind was at Bekkah (now known as 'Mecca'). It was blessed as holy and made as the centre of guidance for all peoples"

This ayat is followed up by Ayat No. 97

"In it are clear signs, and the spot where Abraham stood for his prayers. It is a sanctuary for those who enter the precinct of the premises. Piligirmage to Mecca is a duty which mankind owe to Allah if they are in a position to undertake such a journey. As of those who disbelieve, ought to know that Allah is quite independent and Self-sufficient. He does not stand in need of any of His creatures."

(This above translation is extract from Quran translated by ABDUL HAMEED ALIANI
published by IDRAT UL QURAN-Karachi)

Now please clear my confusion on two accounts.

1) Surah AAL-E_IMRAN specifically draws the attention of the Christians in particular as well as Jews?

2) Is Hajj being made mandatory at a time when there were Idols in Kaaba?

Hajj is Fardh only for Musims, and that too only for those that have the means and are capable of undertaking the journey. Just because a surah generally addresses a certain group does not necessarily mean every ayah is such.

But it was revealed at the time when there were 380 idols in Kaaba, Madinah.
Even ayah in Surah Hajj mentioning about Hajj are revealed in Madinah.
