Markaz Nizamuddin is an amazing and superbly Noorani place. I have gone to Markaz so many times and that's the only place in entire Delhi that I enjoy frequenting.
And Markaz Raiwind has been my dream place after Mecca and Medina. I pray that I get lucky some day to go there and meet Maulana Tareeq Jameel Sahab. Any volunteer inviting me to Raiwind? Raise your hand.
:-)
Edit: Imran Bhai, lets meet at Markaz someday. What say?

When ever i hear of markaz, the first thing comes to mind are the hard times of eating and sleeping there
I ate only once there and it was horrible. eating in hotel was also costly as I has to rely only on chicken and related stuff, as i dont eat that north indian meat :-)
And also it was a pleasure to read the namaz in jame masjid, especially magrib one :-)

They don't let you stay there for that long; three days at maximum. They keep track of everyone there. So they were after me, keep encouraging me to do tashkil so I had no choice.
First tashkil was near Nawabshah (Sindh) and second to Shujabad and Multan. Last one was in Lahore.

Did you ever come to the US in jama'ah from Pakistan? A few years ago a jama'ah from Pakistan came to our locality; one of the young brothers in the jama'ah was named Saad.

Assalamu alaikum,
I have been to Nizamuddin only and overall I stayed there for maybe a month if you add up the time between tashkeels. Unlike Pakistan where they don't let you stay for more than 3 days (as brother Saad mentioned) in Nizamuddin the minimum is 3 days and I remember staying there once for up to 7 or 8 days.
From what I hear those that visited both places they say that Raiwind is better in many aspects but the elders say there is some sort of hidden benefits in Nizamuddin. The brothers who visited both say that your imaan gets higher in Raiwind and also there are many many more foreigners and from many more different countries. Also Raiwind is in the outskirts away from the city with no bazaars to have a bad influence. Nizamuddin is on the other hand right in the middle of the bazaar and if someone goes there it's not very good for the imaan.
I want to hear more about Raiwind from the brothers inshaAllah since I have never been there - inshaAllah.
(I am sorry I don't want to offend anyone if it seems I am praising Raiwind more than Nizamuddin. I am just saying what I heard. Obviously the spiritual significance of Nizamuddin cannot be denied as this is where Moulana Ilyas, rahimahUllah started the work).

Assalam o alaykum,
Well, no. Because I reside in U.S.A. This was back in 2003/2004 when I visited Pakistan I spent some time with Jamat.

Yes, when I was at Raiwind there were jamats from Turkey, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, France, U.K, Arab countries, etc.
There is a bazaar outside Raiwind but most of it is bookstores, attar shops, miswak shops, small restaurants, P.C.Os, net cafes, laundry shops, etc. You will hardly see any masturat so it’s safe.
Then there is another main bazaar/mundi 5 miles from Markaz; environment there is somewhat different.

directly opposite nizamuddin markaz there is (or was?) a kebab shop. further to the right towards the book store there is a place selling roti.
we used to take some roti from the roti place and go to the kebab shop and order kebabs and salad and chutney. (can you tell where im going with this yet!?)
we layered the roti with salad, place our kebab in the roti and pour chutney all over it then rolled it into a good ole traditional british kebab roll!
the kebab man saw us doing this then in a few days he was selling good ole traditional british kebab rolls by the dozen! i wonder if he is still there?
also when we used to look opposite the markaz from the foreigners level floor we used to get an eye full of sweaty mustachio guys pulling weights in the gym opposite. is that still there?
AND also.......im surprised no one has mentioned dastar khan al kareem's. where i come from al kareem's was as famous as the markaz itself.

Is the Dastakhan Kareem the lavish restaurant where even westerner's go? If it is I went there once and I regret it as it is completely opposed to the whole spirit of jamaat's simplicity. I don't regret going to the cheaper restaurants but some of our friends came over to visit us just for a couple of days and dragged us there.

The shops in Raiwind are controlled by the markaz and they close during salaat time. Also they are not on a large scale. But the scene outside Nizamuddin is probably like the place you described 5 miles from Raiwind. I think Nizamuddin is one of the biggest bazaars in the whole of Delhi.
In Nizamuddin there are people from many countries too but not as much in terms of people per country.

Both the places are our heritage of Islamic history. But personally, I don't like going to Jama Masjid as it has been made more of a tourist spot, than a sacred worshipping place.
And BTW it's J-a-m-a [not Jame]. You made it sound like a James Bond [007] Masjid. :p
