If one were to say "I repent for every sin I have ever committed" even though he had not remembered every single sin in his memory, then felt sincerely remorseful and prayed 2 rakat salatul tauba for instance - would he get the reward like hajj (aka be "as sinless as a baby")?

I'm just wondering because sometimes people forget something they did 10, 20, 30, even 40 years ago and for that reason they might not repent for it (even though they do not do it anymore) and they might not have done hajj yet - and might not be able to... so would that suffice for forgiveness of sins? Of course they still have the obligation of hajj.

I was just thinking about that today. Like could one do a "total repentance" where they just repent for everything ever?

Jazakallah wa Khayrun

Sallamu Alaikum

Total repentence is something which is not to surprising and should be done sincerely at all times. However, one cannot be certain that all his sins are forgiven. Another wonder from Allah to allow us to keep turning to Him again and again.

-- Seek the forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him in repentance that He may grant you enjoyment (11:3)

-- Oh you who believe ! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance (66:9)

The Prophet said :

-- I swear by Allah that I seek forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day. (Bukhari)
