السلام عليكم,
Alhumdulillah, I have been learning web programming for a few months, and the project I decided to work on for practice is called HifzHelper.com. It is inspired by what Mufti Yusuf from ShariahProgram does, where all the students report their progress in a thread everyday for motivation and tracking their progress.
So it allows you to record how much new material you memorized in a day and how much of the old material you practiced. It gives a score so you can compare how much you read and set goals for yourself.
There are lots of other features I'm going to experiment with in the future (you can read some in the About button on the website) but the most exciting ones are:
1) friend/ instructor-student relationships, where you can compare how much you've recited, or an instructor can check on his students.
2) charts and graphs showing progress, calculations of how long till completion at the current pace, suggestions for goals in order to complete in a certain amount of time.
Inshaa Allah, I'll be working on these in the coming weeks.
Any comments, suggestions, questions, complaints, du'aas, etc are welcome! I know how reliable-opinioned SF members are...:cheesygri:cheesygri

P.S. Probably doesn't work in Internet Explorer. All the cool kids use Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, anyway :). (also should work in Opera I think).
assalam o alaikum very nice website thanks

Brother meelash,

Not yet, although I may get to that a few weekends from now, :insh:. Do you have trouble with the site running too slowly?
(mods can move these comments to this thread if they like: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?53633-New-website-HifzHelper-com)

:salam:
First of all,
Hifzhelper is a wonderful idea!
Let me list the admirable features:
Well built
Beautiful design
Clean of all adds
Clean of all unnecessary stuff
Neat to the point
Easy to navigate
It is a unique project out there
On the other hand, the website is
Slow at times
Gets stuck occasionally
In addition, it would be great to have:
Offline version for students who doesn't have internet connection
Installable package version for teachers to want it to install on their website to control and monitor their students
Option for teachers monitor their students through your website
Options to print results in high quality PDF
Option to import/export results to Excel
:jazak: for all of your efforts in bringing up such a beneficial project to our use. May Allah grant you Jannah with the rewards you would get from helping students of Qur'an, thus serving the Qur'an. :-)

Salam people, another tool you may find useful is the project I have been working on. Its a full quran mp3, but broken down into quarters. CD quality. Inshallah I hope this is useful.

السلام عليكم,
I wanted to post in this thread to make everyone aware of the new version that has finally been released, :alhamd:
There are a large number of new features and improvements, some of the biggest are:
Speed increases- In our tests, the loading and running speed of most of HifzHelper.com is about 4 times faster than version 1. Please let us know what results you have, and if any features on the website are particularly slow for you.
Classrooms- Teachers can now create classrooms on HifzHelper.com and their students can join the classroom to allow the teacher to monitor their progress.
Charts and Statistics- Users and their teachers can now view charts of their progress, and calculate how long it will take to complete memorization of the Qur'aan.
Video Documentation- The user guide now includes videos explaining how to use HifzHelper.com.
General graphical improvements
:alhamd: it's really cool to use, now, I hope it helps to motivate others to be consistent with memorizing.

Mashallah la quwatta illah billah this is excellent! JAZAKA ALLAHU KHAYRAN!
I have a collection of Hifdh memorization strategies I collected bit by bit- mainly from various postings on the AlMaghrib forums. They include a variety of techniques varying by geography, and methods of different shaykhs and institutes.
Let me know your email, and I will send you it, and you can add it to your website perhaps? My email is muslimology @ gmail dot com.
Keep at it sidi. Make as many of these creative Islam meets technology projects as you can, and if you need ideas- let me know. I have no shortage of whacky ideas! HAHA!

وعليكم السلام,
Bro. verdana, I never got around to thanking you for all your feedback. Seriously, that is really, really appreciated that you took the time to write all this up. :) And aameen to your du'aa!
In light of the version that was just released, let me discuss some of your points:
Well built
Beautiful design
Clean of all adds
Clean of all unnecessary stuff
Neat to the point
Easy to navigate
It is a unique project out there
الحمد لله. I hope all of this is still true- in spite of the new features adding some more complication, I think it is worth it... Also, in the future, I probably will have ads, in order to make the site self-supporting, but I can guarantee they will be: (a)halal-without pictures of animate beings or objectionable content and (b)unobtrusive. I also have thought about a paid version with more features like actual recording of recitation for the teacher, and one of those features might be ad-free-ness.
On the other hand, the website is
Slow at times
Gets stuck occasionally
:insh: This will be much, much better now. Loading time should be about 4 times faster, and most features of the website have sped up considerably. I also focused on some of the most irritating slow-downs. For example, the menus with surah names, which used to be extremely slow, are now blazingly-fast. I only have a few computers to test on, so if other people have problems, I'd appreciate information about it (what part of the website was annoyingly-slow, what kind of computer you have, etc.)
In addition, it would be great to have:
Offline version for students who doesn't have internet connection
Installable package version for teachers to want it to install on their website to control and monitor their students
Option for teachers monitor their students through your website
Options to print results in high quality PDF
Option to import/export results to Excel
I'm working on this one. I have already a version that can be installed for macintosh computers, but it still requires an internet connection to run. :insh: I will make a fully offline version at some point.
This is a very good idea that I hadn't even thought about. :insh: I'll definitely work on this, especially if I get some teachers to work with me on what exactly it should look like.
Done! :D There are some more features that will be added to it, but, for now this is fully functional and works quite nicely. I'm using it myself.
Working on it.
Working on it.
جزاك الله خير again, and I hope other people will also leave their feedback!

السلام عليكم,
Bro. Dawud, that would be excellent. I have 3 Hifdh methodologies of my own that I intend to add- (1) Is from an old indo-pak teachers manual, that describes the schedule generally followed in those areas, another I got from a forum, and the third is from one of my own teachers.
I'll have to think about how to setup the interface for looking over them all, as I think it will get too messy with more than 4 or 5, if I just use the current tabbed window setup.
I've sent an email.

What I have been trying to find and wonder if it can be consoldated into your program is Mnemonic aid.
I remember Sheikh Hamza Yusuf mention it about the use of Mnemonic's when it came to memorization of the Quran.
I never came across any myself.
Please ignore this if it is not worth pursuing. since I do not know the other techniques I do not want to add any idea to the mix.
I found interesting is the possibilty to estimate the length it may take you based on your current progression. I find that feature really cool.
JazakAllah and please keep up updated. If you need me to assist in anyway regards to design, promotion, web, etc. Give me a shout.
A offline method would be appealing and I do know a coder that could help in this area. Costs are involved I am afraid, but it is something to consider if need be.
