IMPORTANT NOTICE! NEW YORK UNIVERSITY MSA NEEDS OUR HELP

MISSION MASJID

as'salaamu alaykum inshallah all is well with you. As you may or may not know, the Islamic Center at NYU will be losing its current prayer space on May 14th, 2005. With over 1000 members, the Islamic Center at NYU provides numerous services and programming to not only the NYU community, but the downtown Manhattan Community at large. Potentially all of that might be halted in the next month if the IC loses its prayer space. In preparation for that, the IC has been actively seeking to raise funds so that we can continue to at the very least have a place to pray on campus over the next few years. However, the question arose as to why should the IC limit itself to raising funds solely for leasing purposes? Why not look to raise money for a permanent, fully staffed space that could potentially reach out to all of New York inshallah, let alone downtown Manhattan? The answer found itself in Mission:Masjid....a project that would call for a five-story bro! wnstone building in the heart of one the most metropolitan cities of the world, run by a trained chaplain and administrative staff, providing classroom space, prayer space and much more inshallah to every person, Muslim and non-Muslim, who chooses to enter. The possibilities are endless..... In order to best facilitate the fundraising process, we have created various committees that anyone can volunteer to be a part of. Each of these committees will carry a unique but important function and can be broken down as follows:

1)Marketing/Advertising
2)Media/Audio Visual
3)Media/ News and Television
4)Internal (on campus) event planning
5)External (off campus) event Planning
6)Community Relations
7)Web Development and Maintainence
8)Product Marketing, Management and Development
9)NYU Admin Liasion
10)Finance
11)Grant writing
12)Public Figure Outreach

I would like to extend an invitation to you, and to anyone whom you feel would be interested, to participate in helping to build this Islamic Center. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to kl442@nyu.edu with the following information:
1) Full Name and Contact info
2)School (current or graduated from)
3)Current Location (if different from school)
4)Special skills
5)Any other information that you feel might be beneficial

The Mission Masjid Project is fully supported by NYU and its offices, inclusive of the Office of Student Life, the Spritual Diversity Network, and the Office of University Development. All funds donated will enter into a secure fund set up in NYU's office of Development and will be privy to NYU's federal tax exemption status.

*****ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE AND WILL BE RECIEPTED BY NYU*****

The opportunity to help establish Islam in one of the most diverse and metropolitan cities in the world now lies in front of us. Together, we can show everyone inshallah what kind of potential lies within us individually as we seek to work collectively on this project. One can only begin to imagine the innumerable possibilities that will open up to us thereafter. It is my hope inshallah that you will join us as we prepare to show New York what Islam is all about.
