Salaam,
He was one of the greatest scholars of his time. He was called the Recitor and the Makkan amongst the people. He lived a simple, humble life, eating from the fruit of his own labor in accordance with the prophetic saying:
"No-one ever ate any food better than that which their own hands earned.Surely, the prophet of Allah, Dawūd (peace be upon him), ate from the earning of his own hands."
