Is it permissible to drink alcoholic drinks such as (araq and beer) excluding the win

There are some people who claims that, it is permissible to drink alcoholic drinks such as (araq and beer) excluding the wine, to the limit that will not get a person drunk, referring to Imam-I Azam Abu Hanafi and some companions of Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu aleyhu vesellem), what is the truth behind these rumors?
