he is basically going through the classical hanafee texts and showing the requirements
for a dar ul islam to change into a dar ul kufr
and shows that the muslim lands do not fit this criteria from the classical books
and therefore hizb at tahreer's conclusion is erroneous and not based
on a classical fiqhi perspective on this issue.

...interesting.

but we knew that when it comes to fiqh, they aren't exactly anywhere near the masters...

I know this is going to make me sound ignorant: but on what matters have the Hizb at-Tahrir (both 'aqida and fiqh-wise) gone against Ahl as-Sunna? There are a few members of that organization here, and although they may be annoying in their da'wa approach, they don't seem to be outside the fold. Please enlighten me.

i don't think anyone in the thread has declared them to be outside the fold of islam. its whether their opinions are in-line with the understanding of the classical ulama. from my dealings with them, they do differ with the jumhur on a variety of issues. for that reason, it is from the path of taqwa to avoid adopting their opinions.

at the end of the day, they are a political party - they are not ulama who are trained in the sciences of the deen. it is dangerous indeed to take their guidance, especially when we know nothing of their leadership, in terms of which scholars they are, and who they studied with.

in addition, the vast majority of traditional scholars of today have not pushed us to join these political groups. in fact, many have advised us otherwise, and some have even specifically told us to avoid this particular group.

as for aqida matters, i am no expert on aqida, but the founder of the hizb definitely did hold views which were not in line with the ashari and maturidi schools of aqida. whether the followers today also take his opinions - i don't know.

in terms of fiqh, they do not claim to be a maddhab, and encourage their followers to follow mujtahid imams. yet at the same time, they issue fiqhi rulings which often contradict the imams, and they expect the followers to abide by them strictly. my advice - stay well clear. they provide no benefit for your akhira - and thats what we all need - if you don't believe any of the above, believe my latter statement!
