Prophetic medicine vs. Modern Western medicine

As-Salamu Alaykum,

A friend of mine asked me the following question and quite frankly I didn't have an answer as I myself had similar questions in my mind to begin with. I've sent it to Mufti Ebrahim Desai [DB]; inshAllah if he responds I will post it here for all. The question is as follows:


In a Hadith of our Master [SallAllahu alayhi wa Sallam] we find:


"hold onto the use of the black seeds for in it is healing for all diseases except death" (Sahih Bukhari)


Why then is there a need for modern medicine? Why do many scholars in our times seek modern medical treatment rather than the Prophetic medicine.

Ideally (in my opinion) if one keeps taking black seed from as young as puberty and like many things FULL YAQEEN (not a likely case) then so be it. So you would then say this is not explicit in the hadeeth, which InshaAllah shall be clarified by the M. Anyway interesting post. Please keep us informed. JazakAllah.
