i have read that if halal meat is at anytime in the hands of the kuffar then it is treated as haram. i think it was from the majlis, SA.

is that the majority view or just the minority view?

That sounds strange. If the animal has been slaughtered according to shari'a it becomes halal, and it cant be made haram by anyones action. Do you mean that they might make it najis in one way or another?

Machine slaughtering for chicken is acceptble in Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Costco can not offer to supply Halal chicken with hand slaughtering, who is watching Costco about Halal status of chicken, they can mix up by purpose or by accident with non zabiha chicken. Like other brother wrote, Zabiha Halal meat has to be under Muslim control because Zabiha is a religious act for Muslims, no non Muslim should be involve in our Zabiha Halal meat business. Machine slaughter is not consider Halal by MCG, many other organizations and many ulema. This is trend spreading all over the world, in USA Restaurant Depot is selling machine slaughter cheap Halal chicken by having a Halal certificate of no value, it is hurting honest Muslims Halal meat businesses. Please avoid buying Halal meat from non Muslims. You have HMC and other Muslim owned Halal meat suppliers in UK why buy at Costco.

Thats come out like a bolt from the blue to me as i always thought Malaysia used hand slaughtered. Malaysia are known to be very strict in their procedures so i guess it seems that their ulama bodies have allowed machine slaughter..

The ulema of malaysia are mostly appointed by the government...the government excercises strict control in this regard. When I went to malaysia the people resented the government for spreading it's own modernistic approach of islam. This was done by state control of virtually all religious activities...

The question was general, I know very few Muslims buy from Costco in UK, anybody can ask question regarding food on this site. I was not thinking that you br. Colonel_Hardstone is going to buy from Costco UK.

JAKIM is a govt. body in Malaysia who is responsible for Halal foods, Halal certification. They have govt. appointed ulema, food technologist but their Halal criteria is liberal. Br. London 786 is 100% right.

Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore consider alcohol containing flavor in food products as Halal. Some have limit on amount of alcohol present in a food product.

It is strange to know why these Muslim countries except Singapore allow alcohol in flavor when flavor can be made without alcohol using Halal Propylene Glycol as a solvent in flavor. They have big buying power, they should dictate food companies for no alcohol in flavor.
