Shattering the Wahhabi Myths surrounding Shah Isma‘il Shahid (http://deoband.org/2010/06/history/distortions/shattering-the-wahhabi-myths-surrounding-shah-isma%e2%80%98il-shahid/)
A salient feature of the innovators of this age is to hurl charges of Wahhabism against the great scholar, muhaddith, sufi, reformer and mujahid, ‘Allamah Shah Muhammad Isma’il Shahid Dahlawi. It is interesting to note that when in 1821 Shah Isma’il Shahid and Sayyid Ahmad Shahid left for Hajj[1] along with 757 of their followers, the Holy Lands were under Ottoman rule and the followers of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab had already been driven out. They had managed to control the Holy Lands for only a short amount of time. It would be contrary to logic and analogy to argue that Shah Isma’il Shahid and Sayyid Ahmad Shahid were influenced by a movement whose influence did not prevail in the Hijaz and the Holy Lands. Rather, the followers of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab were vilified and defeated. It is unlikely therefore that in such an atmosphere the two respected shaykhs were influenced by an ideology which not only lacked influence in the region but was at the same time ostracized and demonized. To show the fallacy of this claim, it would be beneficial to list those issues over which there is difference between Shah Muhammad Isma’il Shahid and what the followers of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab generally believe. It will become clear to the readers that these charges of Wahhabism have no basis.

:jazak: Shaykh Saad, may Allah reward you well, the myths certainly have been shattered!
I have a queation regarding Taqwiyat al-Iman. In this article there is a quote from it that tawassul is permitted, and obviously the Salafis are against this. Why is it then, that the Salafis themselves publish this book (I have seen a copy published by Darus Salam)? Do they just omit this portion or something?

Assalam o 'alaykum,
Yes, they omitted the tawassul sentence from the English translation. See this post (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?39144-Defending-Shah-Ismail-Shaheed-against-lies&p=400073&viewfull=1#post400073).

It is in fact this constant habit that shocks me.
Assalam o 'alaykum,
According to these people, Shah Waliullah was also a Wahhabi and his sons had Wahhabis tendencies.

Yes:
Before Molwī Aḥmad Raḍa Khān, Molwī Faḍl-e-Rasūl Badāyūnī (d. 1272AH) wrote in his Persian book Al-Bawāriq al-Muḥammadiyya bi Rajmī al-Shayātīn al-Najdiyya (The Muḥammadan Lightning in Striking The Najdī Satans): "The conclusion of everything that Shāh Walī Allāh has written shows that he is against the Ahl al-Sunnat wa al-Jamāʿat. Shāh Walī Allāh’s pious children[1] have not published and distributed these types of books (by Shāh Walī Allāh), and have kept (these books) hidden. It is as if they have veiled those words of their father that were unveiled."

Assalam o 'alaykum,
Not just Molwi Fazl Rasul Badayuni but famous Barelwi scholar and debater, Molwi Muhammad 'Umar Icharwi declared Shah Waliullah Dahlawi as a Wahhabi and one who insulted the prophets and saints. He absurdly claims that Shah Waliullah feared for his life in India and ran to Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Wahhab!
I will post it from his Miqyas-i-Hanafiyat over the coming days. InshAllah.
