Does anyone know how many meals a muslim should eat per day according to Sunnah? I eat one meal per day while drinking fresh made juice, and water throughout the day, except for Ramadan when I do not eat or drink during the day

1 meal a day sounds extreme, are you you re getting enough calories and nutrients from that 1 meal?

1 meal per day?

As far as I know there is no certain amount of meals per day known..
but the amount of food per meal should fill 1/3 of your stomach and another third is for water..

so eating as much as the body "needs" .
and a human body definetly needs more than just 1 single meal a day..

your body also has rights . such as the right for rest and the right for nurishment..
and what is the hype about eating so little?

hey your body needs food..

:salam:

Some of my friends who were former NOI told me that based on their teachings and discipline, they only ate one healthy meal a day.

It's from the sunnah not to eat to your fill. Also a part of the stomach should be for liquids and air.

I read in Hayaatus Sahaabah :anhum: that the prophet's :saw: companions :anhum: ate once a day and even some on a few morsels.

I've heard the scholars say that due to the general physical weakness in these times, all of us cannot imitate them in this aspect but should keep this practice as an ideal in front of ourselves so that we may lead simpler lives.

What he said, was something along the line of "Are you not concerned about anything else than filling your stomach?!"

Sulaiman84 andTrueLife,
Yes thats what I have heard as well. I will go and read that. No its not extreme, I used to get sick every winter when I move to northern USA at that time, I was eating three meals a day. I started eating two meals and then one. Since then I have never been sick again and my body quickly adjusted to one meal a day. I still consume enough calories and I make sure that I eat a very well balanced meal and drink lots of water and fluids throughout the day, so my body is not deprived at all. Buth rather I am able to focus on things other than food, which Insha'Allah will help me to prepare for my first Ramadan this year.

I've read from homeopathic doctors and traditional hakeems that the stomach is the place where most diseases start.

I've noticed myself in Ramadhan I don't get sick like I usually do in other months.

InshaAllah it will be easy for you. Ameen

Where fasting is concerned, I found it most important not to miss sehri, and to eat a balanced diet. Have a look at this thread. (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?26683-Health-Tips-For-Ramadan)

You may need to work on your sleeping habit to ensure you don't miss sehri (eating before the fast - im sure you know it's a sunnah) This will help you throughout the day, as well as gaining extra blessings.

Have a great first ramadan! :D
