ANSWERED: Are wrongful thoughts a sin?

allow me to give u a lil background of this question i'm about to ask you.

i have a muslim female friend who during the few years we've known each other has become more religious mashallah to the extent where i recently went to meet her to show her my new born daughter. she wudnt shake my hand saying i was a gair mard. i understood respected that and so b it.

on this other msg board we go on she was going on about how she was finding certain famous men attractive and having "thoughts" about them adn their physique.

i said that she shudnt think such thoughts as they were wrong to which she replied that it wasnt wrong to think such things as long as she didnt give into the temptations and that thoughts are thoughts nothing else.

is this true? in her case is it ok for her to think thoughts of gair mard in such a way or is she correct in sayin that its ok as long as she doesnt give into temptation.

is there anythign in the quran or hadiths regarding this?

Whoever on purpose thinks [about bad] is like the one who on-purpose looks [at bad]. And whoever tries to push
away the bad thought from his heart[/mind] as much as he can [has done his duty].

1000 Here, Allah clearly blames people for having bad thoughts. And blame is only associated with acts for which people have some
control over. Thus, it is possible to gain control over one’s thoughts. And only people untrained in the ways of the Path will deny this.

I think it's a major question here when you think about it. Is there any rukhsa of any madhahib regarding this matter.

The images of women's 'awrahs are scattered in many of our brains unfortunately. Everyday we go outside it's very hard to not accidentally look at a woman's hair.

I mean if we just think of Queen Elizabeth of England or even put the though in our mind of Laura Bush we see a woman's 'awrah.

Does any madhab say these thoughts are mubah?

Maybe this falls into the category of "was wasaa", as mentioned in the final surah of the holy Quran.

Whereby shayaan whispers things into our hearts and trys to affect our thinking. The closer a person is with Allah, the harder shaytaan tries to decieve a person thorugh this and other means.


I have heard from elders and learned scholars that the closer a person comes to Allah the worst the thoughts become. This is where the sheikhs and following a tariqa can help alot

Inshallah a scholar can expand on this issue.
