al kauther insitute teacher
Tariq Appleby was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa.
After completing High school Tariq went to the Islamic University of Madeenah to pursue Islamic studies. He completed his Diploma in Arabic and then in 2007 graduated with a B.A. in Hadeeth studies. His time in Madeenah coincided with that of his friend and colleague Bilal Ismail. During that time they both studied basic Fiqh with Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury and also with other scholars in Madeenah.
He has taught in a number of Islamic centres in Cape Town, and is currently working as a teacher in the Discover Islam centre (DIC) with Dr Abdullah Hakim Quick. He also teaches with Al-Hijra foundation which offers short courses and youth programmes in Cape Town.

To be honest I am not sure if Dr Quick follows a madhab or not.
I know that the local hanafi ulama didnt object to him speaking at any of the Islamic schools in Durban when I was still at school.
I personally have been to a few of his talks (mainly on history of islam and also one on heritage) and found them very interesting and informative.
Perhaps one of the SA ulama on the forum can answer your query.
Sorry I could not be of more help.

Are you refering to the late Hazrat Ml A.H Omarjee who stayed here in SA and was a founding member of the Jamiatul Ulama (Natal)?
If so, Hazrat Ml Omarjee was a very close friend of my grandfather.

Al Kawthar Institute is salaafi. Intially I know some people supported this organisation but after seeing some course organised and material used, they retracted their support. Sidi Abu Aliya was one of their teacher and it seems his take on the subject of aqaid based on the classical view did not go down very well with the Alkawther crew. So do not be fooled by them.
Idil: this is a valid question as it is characterisitic of modern day salafi to rant against orthodoxy (schools of jurisprudance) and we know the types of tricks they like to use on unsuspecting listener. Ofcourse there are exception to the rule but the modern day salaafiyaa in the west is devisive in all arena of life.
As for Shaikh Abdul Hakim Quick is mashallah very good. I remember one brother asking him about imam Matrudi and Imam Ashari, he said they are part of ahle sunnah wal Jammah and he is aware most of the africa had a very strong sufi influence. It is not surprising to see him getting invited to orthodox masjid and organisation.

Maulana Hussain , jazakAllah for that info, he is going to give a lecture in a few weeks from now, titled 'lord of the worlds' , in the brochure that i got, it says that he once taught at discover Islam Centre with Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick...and as brother Nomadic & Maulana Junaid and others pointed out, Dr. Hakim is maliki, i was a bit confused with that. I will stay away.

Alhumdulillah...thats good to know since I wasnt aware Ml Omajee was a founder of the madressa.
May Allah (swt) grant Moulana Omarjee Janaat-ul-Firdous, Ameen.
He did excellent work.
Yes, I have family in Kathor (Vawda's) but unfortunately we don't have much contact over the years and have fallen out of touch. My grandfather used to write letters to them when he was alive.
Also, I was told that Ml Omarjee was married to my grandfathers niece (a Vorajee's daughter).
Moulana Junaid, do you have an email I can contact you at if you dont mind?
Sorry Brothers for hijacking the thread for family issues!
