Translation project

Assalamu Alaikum dear all,
I was wondering if one could start a translation project on their own..voluntarily. I want to translate some religious books dealing with purification of soul, and books written on Arabic grammar etc ( simpler, basic ones ). I just wanted to ask if I first need to seek permission from somebody ( the writer perhaps, or the publishing house/maktab/jamia ).

More then likely if their is copyright issues and also it is best to have proof readers who are scholars.
Any particualar book you had in mind
