Question asked by a student to Arif Billah Hazrat Shaykh Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (Damat Barakatuhum)

Student:
I am also connected with the tablîghî jamâ‘at. Some friends are telling me that I have placed my feet on two ships. In other words, tasawwuf and jamâ‘at cannot go together. Is this correct? What should I do?

Shaykh:
Those who say this are immature. They are not two ships but one. Tablîgh is a branch of Dîn, the places where the Qur’ân is taught is a branch of Dîn, the madâris is a branch of Dîn, the khânqâh for the purpose of purification is a branch of Dîn. The proof for this is the following verse:

“Reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom.”

How, then, can they be two ships? If they were two ships, why did the founder of the tablîghî jamâ‘at, Hadrat Maulânâ Ilyâs Sâhib rahimahullâh, remain in the service of Hadrat Maulânâ Khalîl Ahmad Sahâranpûrî rahimahullâh for thirty years and live a khânqâh life? Why did he frequent the khânqâhs after spending forty days in tablîgh? Every department of Dîn is ours, they are all important, and they are all one. They therefore belong to one ship. Do not get caught up in the statements of immature and ignorant people. Be the companions of each other in matters of Dîn and do not be different groups.

Student:
By providing a verified answer to my question about the tablîghî jamâ‘at, you removed all the misgivings which ignorant people created in my mind.

Fatwa from Mufti Ibrahim Desai (DB ) about Tabligh and Tasawwuf is also very valuable. His fatwa is shown nelow.

Q. If someone is involved in tasawwuf, is it ok if he does not do the effort of dawah and tabligh?

Answer :

All these efforts are needed and have to be done simultaneously in order to create a better individual and a more religious society. One who is concentrating on Tasawwuf should not neglect the effort of Da?awah and Tabligh but should try and create a balance in his life.

For example, Weekly, if a person attends the mas-ala of a certain Buzurg on a Thursday, then he should participate in the Ghusht and Jawla programmes on Monday and Wednesday. In other words, we need to make some type of adjustments to our daily lives and routines in order to facilitate all these efforts of Deen which are Haqq. We should refrain from becoming totally one sided, biased and neglecting some of these efforts and dotingly only some.

and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best
