Maybe internet wise, but in Turkey it is still a very rich and Sunnah orientated Tariqa.

i thought it was officially dead, and any remnants of the tariqah were really designed to attract people generally to the spiritual path, or the works of Rumi.

Salam alaykūm,

it seems that the mevlevi Tariqa is dead now. A mevlevi shaykh died a few years ago, and his disciples incorporated others tariqas (shadhiliyya alawiyya for example in Damas).

Salaam.
The Mevlavi order was not exactly founded by Jalal ad-din ar-Rumi was it? Wasn't it based around his actions? How are those "excercises" justified? Did they come in the form of inspirations to the Awliya of that order?

Salam aleikum,

it wa said that the order was found by Sultan Walad (rumi's son).

The origin of the dervich "dance" is the type of Rumi's awhal, that was transmitted to his disciples.

Centuries (years ?) after, the awhal, which was spontaneous, has been codified to become the ritual of nawodays.

Do you happen to know the name of this mevlevi shaykh, who died?

I heard of someone by the name of Haci Ahmed Kayhan... does anybody know about him?

I have heard of Shaykh Ahmad Dede, a Khalifa of Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani:

Assalamu Alaikum

It is certainly not dead in Syria to the best of my knowledge.
