May Alla grant Colonel Shifa-e-Kamila and ease his pain.

One of our Sathis, who is a practicing Physiotherapist prescribes the following from his own experience:

Kidney Stone Watermelon Flush

One of the easiest ways to cleanse a kidney and to flush out stones is a watermelon flush. Simply buy a few large watermelons and eat as much watermelon throughout the day drinking all the juice as well. Watermelon contains over 90% of water, and has one of the highest among fruits. It is also a natural diuretic and will make you use the restroom a lot! You can also take the seeds, crush them, and make a hot tea to sip throughout the day for extra benefit. Many people have passed large stones using this simple but effective method. (If you are diabetic do not use this, as watermelon contains sugar)

Thereafter, follow the following water regime:

The Water Cure Recipe
Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Example 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily. Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses you will need to drink, daily. Use 1/4 tsp. of salt for every quart of water you drink. Use salt liberally with food. As long as you drink the water, you can use the salt. Avoid coke, tea, coffee or other caffeinated drinks. These are diuretics and will dehydrate you. Every 6 oz. of caffeine requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you.

Notes: Use clean water and non-refined ocean salt only.

You may long into the website : www.watercure2.com for watercure benefits.

I am deeply indebted and honoured to all my Brothers & Sisters who have made their dua for me at this painful time and may Allah (SWT) reward you in this life and the next (Ameen).

This is my 4th kidney stone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_stone) so nothing new but this time, I honestly thought that it was my appendix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermiform_appendix) (pain in the right quadrant t of the stomach) so when I was admitted the Doctors also concluded that its appendix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermiform_appendix) and prepped me for surgery and pumped with “morphine”.

I didn’t have any fever so they delayed the surgery because that’s one of the classic symptoms of appendix. After waiting hours of surgery fortunately I had huge amounts of blood passing out so they thought that either the appendix is gone OR this is something else so after CT-SCAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray_computed_tomography#Low-dose_CT_scan) it was discovered to be a kidney stone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_stone)

After spending 3 ˝ days in the hospital, I am now at home and the stone is still stuck somewhere!

Everthing happens from Allah (SWT). This one has happened after 10 years because a Shaykh (from Saudia) told me that eating FIGS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_fig) breaks down Kidney stones so I ate them for years and never had a problem until about 2 years ago when I stopped so anyone who has a kidney problem is advised to eat a lot of FIGS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_fig)

It works and when you don't eat them, you get in trouble : - )

Salaam Brother ColonelHardstone,

I had kidney problems twice and I can attest to the pain you went through. Most people don't know what pain is until unless you've been through this experience. The first time I had kidney stones was when I was 10 the other when I was 16. The second time around, the technology was different and I believe they used some sort of laser technology. Now I'm 29 and alhamdulillah haven't had any issues. I usually work out at the gym 2-3 times a week and play basketball and drink plenty of water. I think this helps alot. I did not know about eating figs - jazakallah khair for pointing that out. May Allah swt keep you, me and everyone here in good health and away from sicknesses/diseases. Ameen.

LionKing
03-05-2011, 04:49 PM
That sounds painful.

I used to have gout, due to a rich diet. It also like kidney stones forms needle like crystals which cause a lot of pain. But compared to kidney stones it's like comparing a sore throat to coughing up blood! I cured myself by losing weight quickly, about 100lbs, in a year, it went away quickly. Now I eat richer foods and walk a lot.

I don't know what his condition is, but doctors can be slow sometimes, my doctor said gout was uncurable and I'd need to take medication (Allopurinol) to prevent bouts of pain. I didn't listen and researched it myself, spotting a correlation between increased weight and gout development in a Japanese study, mostly occurring in males as they get older. But to me it could just as likely be weight, as older men tend to put on weight. So I theorised that losing weight should cure me, and it did.

Kidney stones...if it's severe which it looks like to be the case, I see no other alternative than surgery to remove them. Followed by a high consumption of fluids, more than average, and exercise, this will increase metabolism allowing the disolving of crystals to become easier. Also limiting dairy products or high calcium foods should be proportionate to the exercise and hydration, as kidney stones are made of calcium oxalate.

LionKing
03-05-2011, 04:52 PM
Sorry, I was wrong about calcium oxalate, wasn't sure if reducing dairy was an advantage, turns out increasing dairy is a preventative strategy. I forgot that some calciums can counteract others.

five litres is 20 glasses approximately, thats not only doable but even normal for many young people in the summers....gimme a month and i'll post my personal record for this summer here, the ramadhan preceding last year's, I used to go jogging just before aftari and had drunk 12 glasses before taraweeh (lemonade plus water)...a further 6 glasses after taraweeh and before sleeping and around 4 glasses at suhoor time....that is 22 glasses of water which is five and half litres, I know people who drink more than this....

Your doctors don't appear to be too competent.
But everyone can't get doctors like me:cheesygri ......just joking. Take care and drink atleast 5 liters of water daily. May Allah protect your health.

Since the topic came up, anyone ever done water fasting? I recently heard of it from my good friend. Apparently you only drink water, dont eat a single thing, for a week or so. You cough up and vomit all sorts of stuff all sorts of colors, purge your system of the toxins, and you lose a bunch of weight in the process also. Anyone know about this? Doc Tamim can you offer some insights to water fasting? Jazakallah.

Colonel may Allah swt make your stone into a soft-stone and pass it through with ease, insha'Allah ameen.

Brother Colonel_... brother Dr. is right. Lot of diseases can be prevented or cured if the body is kept adequately hydrated throught the day. But I understand un-refined natural salt has to be taken with water when water intake is in large amount. Log into the website www.watercure2.com and ready everything thoroughly. It's a life long process.

I think the above mentioned 'water fasting' has more chance of bad effects than good. One can expect ulcers, Decrease in blood sugar way below the normal level, loss of consciousness, increase in ketone-bodies in blood(starvation ketoacidosis) etc. One doesn't have to purge toxins like this. The body has its own natural 'efficient' detoxifying methods.

:salam: Colonel saheb. All of us are dependent to a great extent on water. However for people with renal stones drinking large amounts of water can prevent stones from forming again and again. Hence you should drink atleast 5 liters per day. And yes, I live to a large extent on water because I am not very interested in food.
