Why are threads locked?

Asalaam Alaikum,
I posted a question in the Islam Q&A forum. After getting few answers, that thread has been locked and I wasn't able to ask any further questions. I have seen this in all the Answered threads, why is this so? Can anyone please explain? :confused:

the Islam Q&A section is meant for fatwa style answers, after a scholar answers the question he closes it. If you wan't to discuss something post it in the In depth Islam forum
