Sahl ibn Sad - Allah be well-pleased with him - said : "A man came to the Prophet - May my soul be his - and said: 'Oh Messenger of Allah, show me a deed which, if I perform it, Allah will love me, and people will love me.' The Prophet - May my soul be his - replied: 'Renounce the world and Allah will love you, and renounce what lies in the hands of people and they will love you."'

The hadith is Hasan and is narrated in the Sunan of Ibn Majah.

(Al Adhkar by Imam NAwawi)

It was also narrated by Tabarani in his Mu'jam (#5972)

What is meant by, May my soul be his?

Assalmu alykum,

exactly what i was gonna ask, and also its permissability to use after the prophets (SAW) and also which is superior to use "SAW" or "may-my-soul-be his" and if it is superior to use "SAW" then why is brother slaman using "may my soul be his"

Ameen to the dua.

Was salaam.

Sallamu Alaikum

It is the Sunnah of the Sahaba to say "May my soul be sacrificed for you" to the Prophet.
