Unfortunately it's invite only at the moment.. But everyone should be able to register soon iA as the invites are flying out.
This Slashdot article (http://slashdot.org/articles/04/06/18/210213.shtml?tid=126&tid=217&tid=95) has some useful applications you can use with your g-mail account.
Of course, the best option is to use it in conjunction with a Sunnipath (www.sunnipath.com) e-mail address for the extra style points and promotion of a great site in every message you send.
Peace Now

Assalamu Alaikum,
I got an invite through blogger, but haven't bothered signing up. With Gmail I don't think you can delete your msgs, so even if you get junk, or virus emails, it's there to stay..right?
But check out Yahoo, they've also increased how much email storage you can have to 100 MB, so I'm using just 5% when before it was like > 70% (I think). Cool. Looks like yahoo's competing with gmail.

The other good thing about Yahoo is you don't get spam mail, viruses or anything. Wish they'd sort hotmail out!

hmm i cant see newhere on how to invite someone
so i asked gmail, this is what i got:
Because we're currently only offering Gmail as part of a preview release and limited test, we don't have details on when Gmail will be made more widely available.
As we make way for more accounts, we may periodically allow you to invite others to join Gmail. When we do so, you will see an invitation link in your inbox.
If you do not see the invitation link, that means that we are unable to provide you with additional invitations at this time.
To invite someone, click on the 'Invite a friend to join Gmail!' link in your inbox. You will then be asked to provide an email address and a personalized message to your invitee.
The person you invite will be sent a message that includes a link to join Gmail. That registration link will be valid for three weeks and can be used to create only one account.
Should your invitee have problems creating a Gmail account, please let us know by clicking on the 'contact us' link in the grey box below.
Please note that the link may not always be available. When you are allowed to invite others to join Gmail, the number of invitations that you can send will be indicated at the top of the page after you click on the link. Once you have used all of those invitations, we will not be able to immediately issue more invitations.
We have also created a sign up list for those who are interested in receiving updates on Gmail, but have not been invited.

Log into your blogger account. Go to 'settings' and from there to 'email'. Enter the relevent info under 'Mail to blogger address'.
Hope that helps.

I have been using Gmail for a while now (I'm one invite removed from a Google employee, actually ;)) but I didn't think to ask if anyone wanted an invitation. I don't know how many they're giving me, so Saleel (and others) if you want an invite, please let me know and I'll send you one! :insh: :)
By the way, why is this in General Islam?

I guess since I started the thread, I'll have to answer it. Well......cause I didn't know where else to put it. I think we need to create more categories. Or maybe it's in General Islam because insha Allah Gmail will be better than Hotmail and other email providers who fill up our inboxes with unIslamic stuff.

The initial idea was that mixed discussion could be about serious topics and hence the general section, with more social topics going in the respective brothers/sisters areas..
We'll see what will be suitable subforums soon insh'Allah (member/event announcements comes to mind..)

Brother AlexLahoz, :alhamd: one of the rules on sunniforum.com is that public displaying of email addresses has been banned. We've done this in-order to minimise fitnah as much as possible. Therefore I have removed your email address from your post.
If sister Leena has anymore invites left, then :insh: please could she state that here. If she does, then I will pass your email address onto a responsible sister moderator, who can then forward your address on to sister Leena.

I have two more left, but I know other users who have said that the more time they used Gmail, the more invites they got. So, as of right now there are two invites left from me. If Saleel (or whoever) can pass the e-mail addresses to me, I'll invite them. :)

gmail is a new email service provider from Google. Unlike other services, it allows 1gb worth of storage, and :insh: will not be plagued by the same problems as hotmail, e.g. indecent spam emails.
