Assalamu alaikum, my fellow Muslims. I am still new to this forum, so if I am posting this in the wrong place, I apologize.
The question I have today is regarding the validity of other holy books besides the Qur'an. The reason this question comes up for me is because often when I watch dialogue between Muslims and practitioners of other religions, the Muslim scholar will point to places in the Bible to (seemingly) help validate the Muslim beliefs held. For example, when trying to prove that Jesus/Isa (PBUH) never said the he was a God or the son of God, Muslims often point to Bible verses that seem to back this belief up (for example, John 14:28). To the best of my understanding, the Muslim belief is that the Bible we know of today has been corrupted, which is why the Qur'an was sent down. If the Bible is corrupted, why then, as Muslims, should we use anything in the Bible to help validate our beliefs as Muslims to others? I understand the logic that since the Bible is the book that a Christian believes and holds as truth, it makes sense to point to where even that book/truth which they hold validates our beliefs as Muslims. However, again, if the Bible is corrupted, how does it work when Muslim scholars use it to help support Islamic beliefs to others? How is it determined what verses have been preserved and uncorrupted for us as Muslims to use to validate our beliefs to others?
JazakAllah Khayran for all of your help in helping strengthen all of our faiths.
