As Salam Alaikum,
Does anyone here know the status of Shaikh Abdul Hamid Kishk? His talks seem very powerful and moving. It seems that Allah has put Qubul for him in the hearts of the common people all over the Arab world. I heard that he was a Maliki scholar as well. Does anyone know more about him?

Yes, he is widely known and respected, may Allah taAla have Mercy on him.
Also, Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq spoke highly of him in a recent bayan.
If a present day respectable and trustworthy alim speaks highly of an alim from the past then that is evidence enough that the alim who has passed away is also respectable and trustworthy.

Wa alaikum as salam,
That doesnt mean that he isnt Maliki, there are other various opinions within the madh'hab so i hear (even though they are minority opinons i suppose)
Shaikh Kishk has a series of lectures on islamway called shurut Qubul as salah. I cant seem to get the lectures to play. Maybe someone can listen and see if it is a fiqh series and if so, see what madh'hab he is teaching from.

assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah,
maybe akhi, as i said i don't know...
I just said it as an indication that maybe he wasn't.
I've never heard him telling his madhhab in his lectures, but the context in egypt at the times (sectarism between different madhahib) might be the reason why.
What is sure is that his aqida is sunni, and his grammatical analysis of qur'anic verses is amazing. His talks are very beneficial.
Pseudo-Salafis don't like him, they say he's a khariji because he criticized arab governements.

Yeah, ma sha Allah, it is amazing how he talks, and then in the middle of it all, he breaks into the Irab of the ayat and the wujuh al balaghah etc. Its funny how salafis would call him Khariji for criticizing arab regimes but they are "Sunnis" for criticizing the former Taliban government.

I heard a beautiful story about this shaykh(Rh) that when he was placed in jail they set vicious dogs upon him, which didn't attack him, rather they just sat nearby him, and he said to the guards: Dogs only eat dogs!

Aisha Bewley has translated a book of Sheik Abd al-Hamid Kishk called "Dealing with lust and greed according to Islam". And i remember ABu jafar al-hanbali from the hanbali forum saying that one can read anything from the works of Aisha Bewley and her husband.

Salaam all,
I have heard from the mouth of Shaykh Syed Al-Ninowy, who studied quite a bit directly under the hands of Shaykh Abdul Hamid Kishk, that he was phenomenal.
Shaykh Abdul Hamid, rahmatullahi alayh, as shaykh Al-Ninowy puts it, was able to nurish us with knowledge despite the order of the eygptian government to remain at home and not deliver any khutba's. Shaykh Muhammad said, he and a few other young scholars used to go to his house in Cairo and learn from him.
Shaykh Abdul Hamid, rahmatullahi alayh, despite all circumstances always said the truth, no matter how harsh it sounded. Shaykh Muhammad told us that in his Khutba's the streets of that district in Cairo would be totally blocked by the massive amount of people attending, and at the end when the Salat starts, some people would stand and leave. ( they were christians who are in love with the Shaykh and regularly attend his lectures..)
May Allah have mercy on him.
