View Full Version : Reciting multiple surah in one rakah?
If one wishes to recite more than one surah in a single rakah, does he have to say "Bismillahi rahman ir-rahim" between the surahs, or does he just start the next surah without saying Bismillah?

It is not necessary but it is preferable (in the Hanafi madhhab).

interesting topic, I would assume its more open to debate; and more of a madhab issue than a clear cut one. I would stick to the prescribed way of prayer and maybe just include the surah in your next salat maybe.

It's optional, they can read it and leave it both. Whatever feels good.

Yes, but I wish to do this in my Tahhajud salah. I dont know too many long surahs, so sometimes I recite multiple surahs in one rakah to make it longer.

Are you sure? Is there proof/hadith?

If I think this is the Abdul Wahab that I'm thinking of, a common person shouldn't question a scholar of deen.

I am not a scholar at all. Please do not speculate. :jazak:
I am merely parroting what I heard a while ago. In the Hanafi madhhab, it is preferable to say the tasmiyah if you're starting another surah - the only exception is if you finish al-Anfaal and start at-Tawbah. I don't know if the other madhahib have a similar ruling.
But it should be noted that it was pointed out on this forum (I don't remember when) that there is a difference of opinion about reciting the tasmiyah before any surah after al-Faatiha.
Here's Ml. Qamruz Zaman's reply on this issue (reciting bismillah between surahs during salah):

To read Tasmiyyah (Bismillah...) between two Surahs in the Faraidh (obligatory) and Tarawih prayers etc, is virtues.
