:jazak:, is it something specific to Barelvis?

Pir/Murshad/Sheikh all are same things. He is basically a teacher who tells how to live in Islamic-way. Else he is a spiritual healer too.

I myself took bayah 2 years ago & Alhamdulillah, I am thankful to Allah that He connected me with such a nice person who has fully devoted his life towards the principles of Holy Quran & Sunnah.

*Sad for those who quote BARELVI-thing everywhere!

erm well they do mostly use the word peer i suppose..others use shaykh

to a lot of barelwis though peer has a different meaning as in someone who deals with jinn and taweedh for different things (some things are legit...some of the peers are very dodgy)

whereas to others peer/shaykh means a spiritual guide as in a counsellor type of person you refer to for Islamic guidance in life

wallahu alam

I mean, is it really necessary to discriminate Muslims? Just say Ummah, no sect :)
That sounds beautiful.

Good Luck! :D
