As salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,
According to a hadith, it is forbidden to draw, create, sculpt, and even take pix (by a camera) of living creatures (animals and humans). in that case are emoticons also haraam? bcuz ur putting a face up, which is an image. but i also heard that u can make pix of the back of someone...but im not sure...can any1 clear up the rulings for this matter plz?

i went to the website, but the guy was saying that making films is also impermissible as it is capturing pix and presenting them so fast, it is as tho the images are moving themselves. but i heard (from a man who gives dawah) that making films is ok, as it is not a pic, so long as u do not record anything haraam. and so many scholars film themselves giving khutbah or dawah, whether on tv or internet. the guy from the article was also saying that watching tv is impermissible. so then wat abt all those scholars who present themselves on tv? r they committing a sin by having themselves videod? and wat if u only watch islamic lectures on tv? is that haraam too? i mean ones without music and nonmahram women of course. i do not mean to doubt or challenge, i just want clarificaxn.

Please [EDIT: note] that "the guy from the article" is a scholar, and it's actually a fatwa, whose word should be taken more seriously than what "a man who gives dawah" can say.
This being said, there is a difference of opinion regarding videos and films in themselves.

Oh, ok, thank you for ur insight. and at least i got the answer to my question, which is: "Using smileys on cell phone chat applications is permissible as these smileys are diminutive.(smaller than the tip of ones finger).Such diminutive images are allowed in the shari'ah.(Raddul Muhtaar)" :) And Allah knows best
