Assalam alaykum

What is the the process of talaq-i-tafwid ? What does the woman need to do once she is ready to divorce her husband for a valid reason? She has the permission from her husband in marriage contract to divorce him for any valid reason she might have in future. Does she need to go to a shaykh? What will happen then?

it needs to be clarified what the husband meant by 'permission to divorce...'; if it meant that he is giving his power of instantaneous verbal divorce to her, then i think she can just say the verbal talaq to him and that will be enough [think i read something like that, but do get it verified; ask-imam.org or sunnipath probably have a fatwa on it], but if it is meant that she'd be able to seek a divorce via an Islamic council in the case where he doesn't give her one [which she'd be able to do anyway without it being a pre-aranged stipulation] then she should do that, and if it means, if she wants a divorce, and he agrees it is for a valid reason, then he'd give her one [verbal talaq] then she should ask him for it

basically, whatever is meant, if she wants a divorce, then she can ask her husband and if he gives her the verbal divorce [i.e, says to her 'talaq'; not sure if saying it three time is neccassary, but saying it three times makes a divorce irrevocable, i.e, she would have to get married to someone else and get a divorce from that guy before she can marry him again, thus find out if it is neccassary or not; if not, then best just get 1 verbal utterance of divorce], then she would be divorced

in the case of an Islamic council getting involved, they will look into the matter and verify her valid reason; then they'd try to get him to give her the verbal divorce; if he does not, then they themselves can announce a divorce and she will be divorced; an internet search should bring up adresses and phone numbers of nearest Islamic council
