When or after making Salatu Istakara [prayer for guidiance],what are some of the signs one should look out for.I know we should pay close attention to our dreams.Are there other signs we should watch out far as well?

Salaam alaikum,

I have been told different things by different shuyukh; some recommend making istikhara until you see something definite in your dream before you should act. Others have told me that if you do istikhara and you have no dream that is showing that what you want to do should be avoided, then go ahead and do it. But this is should always be coupled with guidance from knowledgable scholar(s) who can also give you advice. Sometimes dreams are hard to understand, and we may feel dream means something when it doesn't mean anything. It is best to always to consult with ulama when your not sure about something, as shura is also a means of coing to guidance.
