:salam:
Alhamdulillah I have started praying again, over the past year I spiraled into the deep ends of dunya (long story).
My question:
At work I dont really get a break to go pray, can I go to my car in pray inside my car?
I know it would be better if I just roll out a prayer mat and pray outside but too be quiet frank - my iman has not hit that level yet. I am still very weak and really scared to stand infront of a lot of people and pray. I know that sounds terrible but its tough as of right now.
Jazakallah Brothers. May Allah reward you all abundantly.

Brother, I would suggest you to just pray in public just once. Once you break the ice, you'll find it easier to pray anywhere :insh: Try first next to your car.

Assalamu alaikum brother,
I cannot advise you to pray in the car as that is not correct. However if the option is between not praying and "praying" in the car then at least do so in order to remember Allah and at least be in some kind of a habit.
However brother one advice. I also live in Toronto. Every time I go to a building the first thing I look for is the stairwell. Since most people use elevators no one is really using the fire exit/stairwell. That is the best place to pray in terms of seclusion no matter where you go. See if you can do that. Only once in a while someone might walk by.
Some advice if you want to pray in stairwells.
i) Make sure you don't block the path of anyone.
ii) Make sure if your back is to the staircase, be careful when getting up so you don't fall backwards and down the stairs.
iii) Make sure you the door is not locked from the other side. Otherwise you cannot get back in.
iv) If it is locked you have two options: (a) Put a barrier to keep the door open or (b) Go down all the way and go outside and then come back up
v) Make sure there is no automatic fire alarm when you open any doors
vi) If you keep the door open make sure there is no automatic signal to alert security. If there is then you might have to go all the way down.
vii) If you keep open you might use something like a shoe (but people will know that you are keeping it open). Another way is to stuff something into the locking mechanism of the door. You can also use a business card over the place where the door locks.
viii) Sometimes the first door does not automatically cause fire alarm but the exit door at the bottom has automatic fire alarm. So it is possible one enters the stairwell and he cannot come out except by causing a fire alarm. So the first time make sure you use a barrier while exploring the stairwell.
Just some tips.

dont know the ruling for the ahnaaf but just incase a shafi were to read this. you would have to repeat your salah because qiyaam is wajib if you do not have an excuse. so you cant sit unless your legs cant hold you up.

In your case the prayer in a car isn't valid. You must prostate and stand. Make dua that Allah(cc) makes it easy for you to pray outside and this might be a good way of doing dawah in your community as the people will see how determined you are with your remembrance of your creator.

I will recommend you to take time for prayer and you have to feel sense of responsibility to offer prayer.

At my University I usually reserve a study room or find an empty classroom.
edit:: I have a portable prayer mat, it is small enough to fit in a pocket. It's very useful, and if you're concerned about time that would be a simple way to cut down on time if you already have the prayer mat with you :)
