Does it have a start age of how old a person has to be to read this and participate to the limit?

Like wondering not now but sometime in the next few months if my older son, Ibrahim whose 6 years old could talk in here amongst other kids his age, you know do some sort of penpal thing. He could say well this is my email but I prefer snail mail and take it from there insha'Allah.

I'm actually looking for someone at least his age, 6 years old or older up to 10 years old to be his penpal.
Someone who would not mind his non-stop writing silly letters and take it as a form of friendship and a way of learning.

JazakuAllahkhairun.
take care

No, I don't think we need to set any limits on age for kids. All kids are welcome, as long as they know what they're typing. :)

Actually, I think it would be quite interesting to see what 6-10 year olds talk about amongst themselves.

Great idea, by the way. I know when I was a kid, I used to love getting letters from and writing to my sister, who used to live out of town.

Assalamwalaykum Sister,
Just a thought, I guess to all. If u have ur son talking to ppl on here just be careful, tho this is a muslim site and all it is still accessable by weirdos on the net. So just a word of caution when ur son is on here to keep an eye on things, u dont want him talking to complete stranger thinking it's a 10 year old muslim and giving out too much info to a weirdo. I've heard some pretty scary stories so I think little kids and their parents should be careful not to let their guard down completely thinking it's all good cuz there are only muslims on this site. May Allah protect us all from evil.
Wasalam :)

Good point. I was thinking about this today....maybe we should get some of the shuyukh who like kids on sites such as SunniPath, etc., to become virtual big brothers for young kids. :) Though I'm not a sheikh, I'd love to write letters and play games (online) with lil kids...time-permitting.

I guess it could be a good way of giving kids a mentor and a friend who can offer them tarbiyah in play....

I don't know; I get these wacky ideas sometimes.

I totally monitor my son's usage on the computer. I do not let him use MSN, or go on discussion boards. If he wants to talk to my family I let him call them up and talk. He can't even type fast on the keyboard, takes him forever to read something on here and type anything.

I was just looking or using this forum for looking for penpals for him to write to him offline, and use mail regular form.

I know all about the weirdos, been using the net for over 10 years.
Alhamdulillah my kids wont be using the comp until they're a bit older, and if they do they would only be allowed to join SP team..

it's fine to hear about stories of the weirdos out there online to be careful of them... but it's another thing if you actually see them online doing their thing... Just check out other discussion boards that have these kinds of people such as Netmuslims, Jannah, Islamica, and even the missing in action SV.

I'd love to know what this 'thing' is.

whatever their "thing" entitles. If they're doing it for good purposes like doing homework, checking an islamic discussion board such as this, playing an innocent game of pop and drop, tetris, using it to memorize quran, hadith, fiqh or whatever it should be fine, but if you are using it for bad purposes such as going into a mixed chat room to do the dating thing like naseeb.com and check out haram sites and all that then it should be stopped.

When i meant weirdos i meant the ppl that are on the net just for the sake of boosting their ego and hurting ppl, they are hurt themselves and need to vent so they take out their anger out on them and put blame on them and blame all their own problems on that person despite that person had nothing to do with it, and despite that person doesnt know you personally they feel that they have the right to judge you and make you feel like you're immoral, and indecent and that you're a bad person for doing what you did, like me for example i married a revert, and some ppl have accepted this as masha'Allah that's really great and others have said to me how could i do that to my indian community? or that i must have dated him or something to get him to revert and i said its not like that at all, he found islam through his muslim f riends and his brother i met him just right before we got married and he became muslim when he was 16 and we got married when he was 23. Anyways he said he saw the change in his bro and that's how he became muslim. His bro is Shaykh J. Hashim Brown.

Anyways you get a few of those ppl online that you should just stay away from or ignore, and i used the other sites as example to show you how weird ppl can get on there, and if ppl know what im talking about or anything that's what i mean.. and if i dont make sense or whatever, forgive me as im dead zone tired and im packed up ready to leave for the nima in 15 mins, will be back on the weekend but then off again to T.O for a week, then the suhba...then back to NJ...so make dua'ah for me all... :)
