In context of etiquette of salaam it says in the above citation that it is sunnah to say salaam, it is wajib to reply to the salaam and that the person who says salaam first gets more reward. It also says that the younger one should make salaam to their elder.

A.S. - Yes the idea of "must" and "obligation" shouldnt be there intellectually I agree with you there but definitely it is an Islamic adab, etiquette, for the younger one to say salaam to their elders first.

Adab, etiquette, is a thing forgotten today among youth and even among the self thought "religious" hijabi/niqabi/bearded youth, they feel that they are among Asharaatul Mubashirah and therefore above all adaab and etiquette. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. What is worse is when they start to decide for themselves what is Islamic adab and non Islamic adab. It is very important that we teach and emphasize etiquette to our youth. If any youth is not behaving in proper etiquette we should remove him from our majlis until he humbles himself and returns to proper Islamic etiquette. Hakeem ul Ummath didnt stress on any zikr fikr water fasting shaghl as much as he emphasized on Adaabul Moashirath and Husn e Moashirath, good and proper social conduct, and this is taken from his Adaabul Moshirat:

Nowadays adults (from a certain cultural background) think that kids must say salam to them first, and sometimes get angry when it doesn't happen. So they lose out on this sunnah of being the first to give salam. May Allah guide them and us.

I agree with above sentiments. The problem is the work is too much and very few workers, not enough workers. What is the problem that Allah swt is not spreading the work, something we are doing wrong...Allahuma eelayka ashku da'fa quwwati wa qillata heelati wa hawaani alan naas

    Self Reformation & Tabligh Jamat.

Nevertheless, reformation has 4 branches & all 4 are found in the effort of Tabligh. There is the company of the pious, pondering & meditation, brotherhood for the sake of Allah Ta'ala, taking lessons from one's enemies & taking stock of one's self. Tabligh comprises all of these. For the general masses, there is no better way of of islah than this. By this method, deen will become widespread.

This effort should be introduced to all.. If everyone was introduced to this effort it will enable the whole ummah to be reunited & come back on that level of deen which the Sahabah had during their time..
The nusrah/help of Allah will come back with the muslims..
More importantly everyone will be aware & conscious of their own level of imaan..
