As a community, one of our duties is to make sure that we keep the understanding of our deen alive within our newer generation. Over the years we have reserved makatib to do this job for us. While on one hand this has had a huge positive impact on the upbringing of our children, at the same time, it has had some negative affect as well. It is vital that for the betterment of our community, we understand both the positive and the negatives of these processes.

The reality of worship is fulfilling the commandment of Allah Ta'ala. To restrict this fulfillment to specific set of postures and recitations is confining that which is very broad. Understand well, the life is governed by numerous do's and donts. To do something at the time when one is supposed to carry out that 'do', and to abstain from doing something when one is ordained a 'dont', is called true “Itaa'ah” (obedience).

We all perceive obedience through the ahkaam jalli (apparent ...
