Hadhrat Shaikh [Zakariyyah r.a] relied a great deal on Allamah Suyuti rahimahullah, who in spite of being a great muhaddith, was very lenient in his rulings on ahadith.

This is the main cause for the presence of some very weak narrations in Fadail A'mal.

What generally happened was that a number of muhaddithin would mention a certain chain for a hadith, then classify the hadith as fabricated.

Allamah Suyuti would then say that there exists another chain which backs it up, thus it isn't fabricated.

However, upon scrutinizing this second chain, it would very often be found to be too weak to be used to back up another narration, as is the case with the hadith under discussion.

I have heard this- that Fadail Amal does contain certain fabricated nanrrations- from my Respected Teacher, the Great Muhaddith and Muhaqqiq, Moulana Fadhlur Rahman Azmi, the Shaikh al-Hadith of Dar al-Ulum Azadville, in South Africa.

He, like other Ulama, would always defend Fadhail Amal, yet defending it doesn't mean we completely reject realities.

Does the mention of certain fabricated narrations in the book mean the book is worthless?
Not at all, or else nearly all the books of hadith would have to be cast aside as worthless.

I am sure other hadith inclined Deobandi-Ulama would also treat the issue in a similar light.

So we defend the book, not like the Salafi's who attack it, however we defend it as we defend the other books of hadith, not turning a blind eye to realities.
