As Hazrath Haji sahab ra mentioned, as my shaikh Hazrat Mufti sahib db mentioned, wisawis, whispers Shaytaan Rajeem puts in the hearts of people, are actually spies working for the nafs and Shaytaan.

In the battle for control over the person, the nafs and shaytaan send these wisawis, these thoughts, as spies to get an idea of what is going on on the other side, what preparations are being made by the soul and intelligence for battle, and to get an idea of how strong the other side is.

The objective of wisawis is to keep a persons thoughts engaged on things other than Allah swt. This is the primary target of Shaytaan when he utilizes his weapon of wisawis, he wants the person to shift his focus off from Allah swt and onto whatever waswasa is coming at that time. Wisawis, these are just spies who are sent by Shaytaan Rajeem to gauge how strong the other side is. These spies will try to come and change your focus. They will try to create anarchy and total confusion amongst your ranks. You must not chase after these thoughts, these wisawis. Ignore them. They will come, many will come, many of these spies come. They will come in many forms and shapes. Some will come to tempt you to do some sort of sin. Some will come and tell you you dont have eeman or you lost your eeman or some sort of issue relating to eeman. These are very sharp spies, well seasoned.

Remember well, when it comes to wisawis relating to eeman, that our buzrughs used to say that a robber does not go for robbery in an empty house, a robber first stakes out a house with jewels and gold and diamonds, something of value, and then goes to rob it. Similarly, Shaytaan Rajeem does not approach a heart empty of eeman with wisawis of eeman, Shaytaan Rajeem only goes to a heart that contains the jewels of eeman and tries to rob it. You get it? Shaytaan Rajeem only goes into such a house, a heart, such a heart that already has jewels of eeman and tries to rob them. How many non Muslims you know came up to you saying they are having doubts of eeman? How many sinful people have doubts of eeman or sin? The wisawis pertaining to eeman you are having, how many non Muslims have you heard complain about the same doubts? This is the working of Shaytaan Rajeem and the spies he sends.

Catch these spies and hang them simply by ignoring them. No matter what type of wisawis come, how strong they may be, whatever their nature must be, you are not sinful for them. You did not bring them on upon yourself, they came on their own. You are not sinful for them. If you sat and thought and brought them upon yourself then thats another story.
