Do Not Look Down Upon Others - A Quote of Hazrat Moulana Yunus Patel Saheb

Rate this Entry
"We cannot and should not look down upon anyone. Once, a drunkard found a piece of paper with the name of Allah written on it. Although he was half-drunk, he picked it up, cleaned it, put itr (scent) on it and kept it in a safe place.

When he passed away, someone saw him in a dream in which he informed the person that he had gained salvation because of that good deed. This action of his was the means of his forgiveness and salvation.

As Muslims, our Imaan dictates that we disapprove of and hate sins, but not the person indulging in sin. We do not know over which deed or action a person could gain forgiveness. We should neither consider any good deed as insignificant nor should we consider any sin, too trivial or small.

It is mentioned in the Ahadith, that once Nabi Salla Allahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam said to Hazrat Ayesha : “O Ayesha! Take special care to guard yourself against sins that are regarded ‘minor’, for even these will be brought to account by Allah.”

Even though one may abstain from major sins, one should not be indifferent to those sins categorised as minor sins, for it may well be, that one is taken to task for something which one considered ‘trivial’."

Looking down on others stem from TAKABBUR. Hazrat Hakeem ul Ummah (RA) has written a Cure for Takabbur.

The following Muraqabah should be done:

    1) Although I have some capabilities in me, but they are Given to me By ALLAH. I didn't get them myself.

    2) I didn't do anything to deserve them it is just Allah's blessing on me.

    3) It is totally in control of Allah, i can't do anything about it, Allah can snatch it away anytime.

    4) Although this other guy (who i am looking down upon) doesn't have any quality at the moment but it is quite possible that he gets them in future and i become dependent on him.

    5) Although he is not very great at the moment but it's quite possible that he may become more pious and deeni than me in the future and I become sinful.

    6) There might be something in him which Allah's likes more than me at this time. You never know. He might be more beloved to Allah than me.

    7) Even if all this is not possible, the guy still has a HAQ on me that i try my best for his betterment.

    8) Behave nicely with the person being looked down upon. Be good to him and show him love and care.

.....A teacher once narrated this story and the man was hazrat Bishr (RA) who was a drunkard in his youth and then he preserved this piece of paper. After some days a saint came to him and said that he saw Huzoor in his dream and He told me to convey his salam to Bishr. hazrat bishr was astonished and he threw away the drink shouting how can huzoor send his salam to me, i am a sinner....Then his life took a turn for the good and he became one of the great Walis of his time...Just thought I would share this version of the story here..

Assalamu Alaikum, I remember a girl Jennifer who used to study with my daughter in Elementary School, no one wanted to play with her because she was very ordinary looking and not talkative or interested in the things normally a grade 5 or 6 girl would be interested. Girls kept away from her thinking she was ODD and even teachers did not give her much attention, my daughter saw that she was always lonely and quiet and decided to become her friend and spent time with which surprised her as well as her parents, as a matter of fact my daughter was her only real friend to the end of the Elementary School........ Surprise Surprise............ 18 years later now she is one of the top notch and most respected Enviromentalist and Green Space organiser in our area and around.

May Allah give her Hidayah, ameen. When people look down on someone and isolate them, it really is a blessing in disguise, I have seen many children in these situation who have become a source of benifit for this World and many who have become very close to Allah, Alhamdulillah.

We should also remember what this 'looking down on others' attitude is exactly why got Iblees cursed. He considered himself to be superior than Adam (as). Allah hates arrogance. Look what happened to Firawn, Karoon etc. Allah destroyed them because of their Qibr(pride). We all suffer from this disease in different levels, unfortunately.

We humans are really 'insaan' the forgetful ones. I reading this will post this comment and agree with everyone. Few minutes later when i read some other post in the forums i will be like 'what a douche, I know better than him.' Astaghfirullah. We are in a very bad state. There is also a problem with not practicing what we preach. Its really scary. I heard this in a lecture today: In the yawm al Qiyama some people will be in the hell fire and other people will ask 'its because of you that we were in the right path then how come your condition is this?'. Then he will reply 'I used to command to do things, and i didnt do it myself.' ! (Allahumma ajrini minannaar.) I feel like stopping all those copy pastes, i m a bad Muslim myself, what right have i to advice others. And here we are finding others faults.

Our only hope is Allah's infinite mercy. Lets pray that we get the book on our right hand on the day of Reckoning, That we all together will gather around Hawl ul Kawthar and see our beloved Rasoolullah for the first time. That we are among the first batch that enters Jannah. Where the veil will be raised and we will blessed with the sight of our Creator, Allah , the Almighty, the most Merciful.
