A lot of schools, colleges and universities around the world are going on winter break starting from this week. Finals are over, all tests are done, the books are closed and the doors of the school are also closed for a few weeks. For a couple of weeks we get a break from the hectic run around, studying for exams, cramming for tests, hours spent on homework, its time to take a break.
These coming weeks let us take a break from the worldly run around, the worldly tasks and trivial matters, and send our kids in the path of Allah swt. This is a great opportunity to help our kids recharge their spiritual battery, to remind them of their purpose in this world. This is to tell them, "Ok you have your school, you have your studies, you have your routine, but this is your purpose, this is the purpose for your creation." Let us send our children in the path of Allah swt, if not the entire time then at least one week on jamaat. Maybe they can go one week on jamaat and spend one week at home, its a win win for all. The ideal situation is if we can accompany our children on jamaat, at least for sometime if not the entire time. When our children see us waking up for tahajjud, reciting Quran, crying in dua, this has a very deep influence on them and it will show its fruits later on in their life. They will take on these actions also. You have to lead by example. If you want your children engaged in these activities you gotta first do them yourself.
Let us send our children in the company of the pious people, the buzrughs, the mashaikh. Take your children to the gathering of these pious people, mashaikh, and leave your kids in their company for a few days or drop them off for a few hours, a few days a week, and pick them up. The ideal situation is if you can join them there and both you and your children attend the company and do the service of the mashaikheen. Let your children see how you are doing service of the mashaikheen and in return learning from the mashaikheen - encourage your children to do the same. This will leave a profound influence on your children. They will take on these actions. If you want your children to have importance of keeping good company and benefit from good company and do service of mashaikheen then you first have to lead by practical example.
Do not let these precious days go to waste. Do not let this precious time pass by. Make use of this time, I cannot stress enough how important each and every second is right now in your childs life. Make full use of each second. My shaikh Hazrat Mufti sahib (db) always advises parents during their childrens school break time to keep their children engaged in the above activities while on break. Most mashaikheen advise the same. Many brothers who have followed this type of routine during break have seen its benefits.
