The Boon of Tasawwuf and the Calamity of Ignorance

Rate this Entry
You will hear and read many people who think low of tasawwuf or think it is an innovation or say and hold many such wrong beliefs and ideas about it. The fact is that these people have very little knowledge of deen. The first step in salaah is niyyat, intention. Salaah starts at intention. What is the right intention? What is the wrong intention? How can one discern about their intention? What are the signs intention has changed? How to properly gauge if the intention is correct? These are all things one goes to a shaikh of tasawwuf for, the first immediate need in salaah is to correct intention and a shaikh of tasawwuf is needed to help one get knowledge about intention and correct it. The book starts with innamal a'maalu bin niyyat - what is amal? What is niyyat? A shaikh of tasawwuf is needed to understand these things and practice on them. Tasawwuf is needed from the first step in any worship till its last. So tasawwuf is a boon and the ignorance of these people is a calamity upon the ummah.

SHAIKH,may I ask why do we need someone else to correct our niyyat for us?Can,t we do it ourself? We know it is a hadeeth, those who don,t learn from a hadeeth, why they are supposed to learn more from a person much less than a nabi (Ala nabiyyena wa Alaihum us Salato was Salam).?

    Bhai jaan,

How many people have the ability to look into Quran and Hadith, extract the essence of niyyat, the method of adopting and practicing niyyat and are well versed on all the things that can weaken and destroy sincere niyyat and differentiate the circumstances where niyyat isn't affected etc? Niyyat is just one example. How many people first of all worry about niyyat? Of those people how many are often troubled and in doubt and their peace of mind disturbed?

Its easy to say "adopt sincere intention", difficult to do without proper guidance of someone who will educate about it and then guide one through these pittfalls and these heights.
