The Boon of Tasawwuf and the Calamity of Ignorance - Realizing ones faults

Rate this Entry
Roughly about 2 years ago a friend of mine pulled me aside in the masjid to ask about tasawwuf and a term he heard "lataif e sittah". From what I learned from my shaikh, I told him what portion he should know about it. I encouraged him to sit in a lecture of a shaikh of tasawwuf, Shaikh Husain Abdul Sattar sahib db. He did.

I ran into this friend again and now I found out he is bayt to that shaikh, Masha'Allah. I asked him what has he learned in the past year, what change has occurred in him over the past year and the first immediate response he had was, "I can now see my faults and what I am doing wrong."

Wah, masha'Allah. My shaikh told me that the person who can see his own faults is on the path to success. How? Now that he can see his faults, where he is going wrong, he can now address those issues and find answers to them and get them corrected. His eyes are now opening, he is now slowly beginning to see reality. Why do I say reality? Because the real blindness is when you cant even see your own faults.

In medical terminology this phenomena is called "Antom,s syndrome" or " cortical blindness" ie when someone is blind and he can,t appreciate he is blind.Such a person constantly bumps into things, and may seriously damage himself.
