Lets say there is a square peg and it wants to get into a round circle. It sees this circle and thinks that sitting in this circle is the best place it can be in, the best situation for itself. You look at this square peg and you look at the round circle and you know that there is no chance this square peg is gonna get into that round circle - at least not without cutting some of itself off. And you know that the amount from the peg you would have to cut off could be a significant portion of it, you would have to possibly cut off important parts of it, and this change would forever mutate and alter its shape.

We are the square peg and we often see conditions and situations we think would be ideal for us. But we dont know what parts of our being we would have to cut off to fit into that situation, we dont have any realization of how important those parts are that we would have to cut off, and we have no idea about how cutting those things out would forever change us.

Allah swt knows that. He knows that this is a square peg and that is a round circle and there is no way this square peg is getting into that round circle without having its eeman cut off, or such and such part of it cut off. So out of the infinite mercy Allah swt keeps us protected from the round circle - whereas we think we are being deprived of the round circle.
