To continue with the previous post, another distinguishing trait of a murshid kaamil is that he has no greed. I have visited many threads on this forum and was saddened to read the views people have, even those who are students in tasawwuf, of a murshid. It is sad to see the level of contempt they hold a shaikh in. They have learned a lot of this and that but have failed to learn the primary criteria of a murshid. A murshid has no greed in him. He who has greed is not a murshid.

A murshid has no greed for name, fame, money, no greed for students and followers, no greed for praise, no greed to stop insults upon him (these are two different things), he has no none of this in him. A murshid kaamil does not claim to be a kaamil because this to is a sign of greed.

Another distinguishing quality of a murshid is that many of his followers, especially close students, are learned, educated people.

Another distinguishing quality of a murshid is that majority of his students follow sharia, they practice upon sunnah lifestyle, they are religious, people. This in fact is the greatest miracle any murshid can perform - to create an awareness in the student for halaal and haraam, a concern to live life according to commandments of Allah and the ways of His messenger sallahu alayhi wa sallam, to create in the student a desire to be pious etc.

Another distinguishing quality of a murshid is that after sitting in his company for sometime one feels an increase in his concern and attachment for the hereafter and a decrease in attachment to the world and material things.

These are some signs of a perfect murshid.
