Mit Mit Kay Mit Ja - An example of annihilation

Before you do any task think why you're doing it.

"I am (insert task here) because it is the hukum (commandment) of Allah swt." Or in some cases, "I am not doing this task because Allah swt commands not to do it."

Let us see a couple of examples of how this works:

"I am going to eat because it is a commandment of Allah swt."

"I am doing this service to my parents because it is a commandment of Allah swt."

"I am looking at this strange woman because it is...." Hold one second, looking at strange women is not a commandment of Allah swt, commandment is not to look. So in this situation one has no choice but look away and say, "I am looking away from this strange woman because Allah commands not to look at her."

Whatever task one does he should do it with the thought in mind that it is a hukum of Allah swt except of course those things which are not a hukum of Allah swt, in such a case just think "I am not doing this because Allah commands not to do it."

From morning till night try this simple exercise. If you want you can take it further, for example:

"I am eating because it is a hukum (commandment) of Allah swt, I am washing my hands before eating because it is a sunnah of Rasoolullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam."

Try this exercise morning to night and see after a few days what your situation is.

Assalaamu 'alaykum ww to Shakhayn Fusus sahib and dr76 sahib

I need to ask a question here if i may. I find this exercise mentioned here very helpful as its like a meditation to develop ikhlaas... please see this: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/entr...ng-on-a-Sunnah

So how does this exercise differ to the one mentioned by Dr Abdul Hayy (ra)? After reading the two posts i've started thinking, can fana and ikhlaas be one and the same? Please forgive my ignorance

I know what you mean but forgive your jahalath how? You are jaahil. And you will forever be jaahil. That is your zaati siffat, one of the few things you can say truly belongs to you that you possess. I too am jaahil and so is doctor sahab and the rest of the lot. Thats like the sun saying "forgive my heat."

Ikhlaas - Intention to do something solely for the pleasure of Allah swt.

Fana - *my summary* Fana is attained when zaahir actions, external deeds, and baatin actions, deeds of the heart (ikhlaas being one of them) are both on shariath and sunnah.

Jazaakallaahu khayran Fusus sahib for taking time...makes sense now. I was looking at the different terms used for similar excercises and got confused.
