I'm planning to start a project of reading an Arabic book, and I would like to ask for suggestions on what book to read. I am basically trying to decide between reading the Ihya Uloom al-Deen and reading a book of tafsir, but I am open to other ideas. A compromise might be to read the Ihya and to read Tafsir al-Jalalayn at the same time. That might be possible due to al-Jalalayn's brevity. On the other hand, I could try reading one of the shorter tafsir works and refer to some of the larger works for more details. Some of the possible tafsirs are discussed here: Tafsir: Recommended Commentaries of the Quran.

Are there any recommendations?

http://www.blogistan.co.uk/blog/mt.p...e-bye-umar-lee

"The other day I learned that a former Muslim blogger, Umar Lee, with whom I was involved in a number of debates during the Muslim blogging era about six years ago, had converted to Christianity and had begun a new blog titled “Myth of Malcolm” (i.e. Malcolm X), claiming that “we” were lied to and that many of the things Islam had apparently promised (such as universal brotherhood across races) were untrue (note: these two blogs, the video he posted and his Twitter feed have all now been deleted or made private). This was really staggering news, even though Umar had crossed a number of lines as a Muslim (most notably from the “salafis” to the Sufi-based movement led by Pir Gilani in Pakistan, which has some communities in the USA, although he subsequently left that movement as well). A lot of Islamophobic bloggers have jumped for joy over this, most reposting Robert Spencer’s announcement, but there have been two Muslim blog responses that I can see, both at Patheos: this one at “The Muslimah Next Door” and this one at al-Mihrab. (More: Tim Bowes.)..............

This event should be a lesson to Muslims who are given to backbiting, especially against scholars and those who work for the good of the community, but also this should be a lesson for braggarts and bullies and people who think they are better than others. ...........

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Yasmin Mogahed (Mujahid) received her B.S. Degree in Psychology and her Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After completing her graduate work, she taught Islamic Studies and worked as a writing instructor for Cardinal Stritch University, and a staff columnist for the Islam section of InFocus News.

She gives lectures on various topics and to a mixed audience very clearly and openly in USA as can be seen in the video above. When she tried to do so in UK she was refuted by Shaykh Mohammad Daniels (HA) here:

Her whole position is based on the understanding of the foreword of Shaykh (Dr) Akram Nadwi (HA)'s book Al-Muhaddithat: The Women Scholars in Islam, the entire book isn't even available in Arabic and not published so she couldn't have read it.

She very clearly doesn't believe in segregation and Pardah in USA so even though she may come to UK and do a Sisters only event her whole position on the matter is problematic. Joking, smiling, laughing anything goes as you can see in the lecture.

When the matter of free-mixing was raised by Shaykh Mohammad Daniels (HA) our dear respected Sister remained indignant, defiant and unrepentant over her issues and so did the organisers Al-Buruj Press.

We understand that the event planned in Dewsbury is Sisters ONLY however we request our Mothers, Sisters & Daughters to stay away from a person with Modernist tendencies and refer to Ulamah who uphold the Sunnah.

This matter concerns us greatly and we personally emailed a number of Scholars and Alhumdolillah someone else has presented the matter to South African Ulamah and here is the answer:

Question: Yasmin Mogahead is giving a talk in Dewsbury. I feel that as she doesn't wear purdah and also address's mixed gatherings, even if her words can change hearts, i don't think it is correct, even participating in a female only gathering of hers. Please help asap so that the reply can be sent before the talk.

ANSWER: It is totally un-Islamic that a strange woman publicly address a mixed audience of men and woman. In Islam, it is compulsory for a woman to remain within the confines of her home and observe purdah from na mahram strange men. However, if the Ulama and the pious of that area attest to the piety of a specific woman, then after adopting all measures in terms of purdah, they may allow her to address a group of women in private. There are many Ahaadith which are reported from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) with regards to the compulsion of purdah in Islam. Refer to

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Answered by:

Mufti Zakaria Makada

Checked & Approved:

Mufti Ebrahim Salejee

Request to Non-Scholars:

You may ask as to why she is being opposed when she is addressing a woman only gathering? The issue isn’t about this specific gathering but the general approach of Sister Yasmin Mogahed (Mujahid) and her general free mixing and the nature of her programs in USA (and also in UK). We would like to remind everyone of this saying of Imam Ibn Sireen (RA) recorded in Saheeh Muslim when he said:

إن هذا العلم دين فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم
This Knowledge is a Matter of Deen, so be careful who you take your deen from.

I don't check posts often but thank you in advance.

With my new job I am frequenting London Euston area a lot. The thing is I do not know London at all. In the past I did use to eat at the London Central Mosque as they have a ktichen there. However since becoming conscious of stunning over the past few years I was wary of whether the brothers at the masjid kitchen are aware of this issue and have taken measures to ensure stunned chicken is not being served.

Can anyone confirm this? is it ok to eat there? or does anyone know of any other eateries around in either the Euston area or near the Kings cross area which are hmc?

Information on this would be most appreciated,

I m putting my stance clear before I put few questions here. I m not salafi or ahle hadith. Imposing questions here doesn’t mean that I m right or wrong. This is only to clarify my doubts . Would appreciate your answers in the light of quran & saheeh hadeeth. Thanks you.

I have following genuine questions, request you to answer those in descent manner.

1. Why we are not asked whether we are Muslim or Not Muslim during registering in SF & instead asked for our madhab ?

2. What does the following options that we get to choose from madhab means ?

There are following options available to chose from:
a. Hanafi ---> Choosing hanafi means that person only follows this madhab, and not any other even if he sees saheeh hadeeth pertaining to certain aspect, if yes why?

b. Shafi ---> Does this mean that person only follows this madhab, and not any other even if he sees saheeh hadeeth pertaining to certain aspect, if yes why.?

c. Hanbali ---> Does this mean that person only follows this madhab, and not any other even if he sees saheeh hadeeth pertaining to certain aspect, if yes why?

d. Maliki ---> Does this mean that person only follows this madhab, and not any other even if he sees saheeh hadeeth pertaining to certain aspect, if yes why ?

e. None ---> Means what ? He knows about all madhab & things all are correct but he doesn't follow one, but when he sees saheeh hadeeth pertaining to certain aspects he follows that. So he is a Muslim right ?

f- Don't Know --- He doesn't know means what ?

g. Not Muslim

h. Shiite -- Not Sunni

If answer for the question 2a,b,c,d, is yes, then doesn't one of our four great imams (all were rightly guided) have clarified that their if you find anything contrary things to follow then follow what you find authentic from sunnah of our beloved prophet (saw).

3. What madhab our sahaba followed during the time of our prophet saw ?

4. Why there is no option to select Muslim, when there is an option called Non Muslim

:salam: warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

The good days of SF will return soon inshaAllah.

The irritator is intending to leave SF. Please pray that this intention of leaving SF comes into existence. just gathering some courage to leave.

It is indeed very painfull to leave the things which are most beloved to you & what can be most beloved to him than SF.

But he has nothing good in him to give it to SF nor is he able to take the goodness from SF nor does he deserve any treasure of SF. :(

It has been a good journey. can never forget. but have to leave. The more he stays here, the more it pains him. IF he plans to leave, it further pains him. but he should leave now. no other option.

An encouragement is needed though, to fulfill this intention of his. he intends manythings but retracts back. May Allah forgive.

Before leaving would like to clear the account of his deeds on SF.
Please foergive him for being silly, for stupid comments on your threads, on your blogs etc.

Special apologies to the elders of SF for any disrespect. apologies to Hadhrat mufti sb, sk. fusus etc etc etc etc etc(Akhir kitnon ka naam lein) for constantly irritating by mails & comments. forgiveness is also seeked from the other side.

InshaAllah if enough courage is gathered then dhobi will dissappear for ever from next month onwards.

:salam:

It was reported in Saheeh al-Bukhaari that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) entrusted me with the task of looking after the Zakaat of Ramadaan. Someone came to me and started to scatter the food about, so I grabbed hold of him and said, ‘I will take you to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)!’… He (that intruder) said: ‘When you go to your bed, recite Aayat al-Kursi, then there will stay with you a protector from Allaah, and no shaytaan (devil) will approach you until morning comes.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘He spoke the truth even though he is a liar; that was a shaytaan.’” (Hadith no. 4624).
