Toronto and especially Donlands area is an awesome place. I grew up on that street. Mufti Yusuf of www.shariahprogram.ca lives there as well. My younger brother Mufti Abdullah is the Imam there at http://www.madinahmasjid.org/
If you are looking for info on Shafi Fiqh, you might want to contact Sidi Hamzah Karmali of Sunni Path.

Donlands Subway station? Welcome to the Hanafi capital of Toronto..not to mention the halal pizza store hub of Toronto. Madinah Masjid - the Markaz of Dawah in T.O. - is across the street and Masjid al-Taqwa - a Sri Lankan Shafi'i masjid - is a 2 min walk, though the imam is a Hanafi and a Shaykh of Tasawuff much like Shaykh Hussain Abul Sattar of Chicago, if I had to compare him.
If you do wish to study Shafi'i fiqh you will most likely have to travel though most places are fairly accessible. I live fairly close to where you plan to stay [5-10 min drive] and i'm in that area on a daily basis. I may even run into you insha-Allah. On Thursdays the Shaykh in Masjid al-Taqwa has a youth darse where he does commentary on Riyadh ul-Saliheen. A whole bunch of people come including several Shafi'i fiqh students who have/are studying in places such as Egypt and Jordan.
On Saturday nights at Madinah Masjid there is a weekly gathering where a whole bunch of people come.
You may want to check out both. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or need any assistance.

What about Scarborough section of Toronto?
Ibrahim al-Harbi said, ‘I heard Ahmad Ibn Hanbal say, ‘If you love that Allah should keep you upon that which you love, then remain upon that which He loves, and the good is in the one who sees no good in himself.”
Refer to al-adab shariah (2/31) by Ibn Muflih
Every mother needs a child...hence Scarborough.
