Can anyone give me the surah's in the Qur'an which mention pork being haraam? I think that it is something which comes from Judaic law, as kosher and halaal foods are quite similar (in what is halaal and what is kosher) for the most part [n.b., this doesn't mean all are].
I've had the... privillege [for lack of a better word...] of hearing about someone who was starving in North Korea, where children are often murdered along with homeless people, and their flesh would be sold on markets, as pork - according to the person who ate it at the time, believed it to be pork as the taste is similar. This is one of the reasons why I think that it may be haraam/unkosher.Leviticus 11:7 and Deuteronomy 14:8
And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.
While this practise goes on, people fight over things that happened in the past instead of focusing on what's happening now.
Peace,
Alitzbha
